Help! Where Is 8.1 Block Heater Lead?

Recommended Posts

I have 2007 Sierra Classic 8.1L

I am presently working in the Columbia Icefield Centre in the Canadian Rockies. 6500 ft.

Getting real cold here so I went looking for the lead for the block heater. The manual says it is tied to the power steering resevoir but it isn't there or anywhere else I can see in the engine compartment. :D

Does any body know where it is??

Thanks

If your truck was ordered with it (and most all are not), the block heater itself will be in the rear most, driver's side freeze plug near the oil filter. The cord will come off of it and move forward. I routed mine into the slot in the bumper. It's protected that way and easy to get to.

I hope your truck has one. Good luck finding it.

Also be aware that on certain year models, they have a built in thermostat and won't come on till it hit's 0F. You can remove the thermostat as I did and stick a small metal washer in there to make contact all the time.

Thanks guys. I found it tucked up under the alternator near the rad with the plug end cleverly disguised with a round red plastic cap.

GM should read the manual!!
