Idler Pulle Or Alternator Squeak

2007- GMC sierra 4.8 - 4x4 got 78.000 KM, squeak coming from engine bay area, it kind of hard to locate, only happen in the morning / engine is cold and idling once warm up no squeak.

 

must be either belt, idler or alternator - again I am not sure.

 

I also notice very fine black powder on drivers side of my valve cover - I am thinking where the hell they come from.

 

now should I go ahead and replace those pulleys or Belt, (Goodyear Gatorback belt) , if possible can someone give me part numbers for them too?

 

forgive me if this is been already answered, yes I searched, fond nothing related to my year and vehicle.

I took a video and posted it when the idler pulley went out in my 05 Envoy, it was very helpful in determining exactly what the problem was.

Can't help with the part number, sorry. But if take some pics of the black powder you're seeing, they may help with identifying it.

If the truck is under warranty, I'd make it the dealer's problem to fix...

Yep that'll be my next solution, at the moment I am OK, I just spray some Canadian Tire Belt dressing

Had the same noise, took it in, turns out it was something with the exhaust. There is a TSB out there for it.

D&SyukonDenali (Dan) thanks a lot for that link - so now all I have to do it get my truck reprogramm... I also have little hard shifting issue, will this reprogramm fix that too ?

 

I will print that TSB posted by RICH and show it to my Dealer, otherwise he'll not listen to me... + how do I know for sure they programmed my truck or not, I don't trust them anymore.

 

cause last time I went there for TPMS, Technician told me, yaha...it will reset it self. then just visiting gm-trucks.com I manage to fix it my self

The only way I think you'll know is if the sweak goes away. I don't think it will do anything for the shifting (mine was a TSB on the 6-speed).

Just to protect some of the members who have posted very useful information here, I would quote the TSB (another member had the same problem and their dealer fixed per TSB xxxxxx) and not show it (the actual TSB).
