3" Lift Kit Vs. Leveling Kit '07 Cc Silverado 4x4

Hey guys, I know this topic has been raised before, but I wasn't exactly satified with the threads I have seen. So, if you feel so inclined, please let me know your opinion on this subject. I am considering doing one of the two: leveling kit or 3" suspension lift. I have heard that the Rough Country leveling kit is the way to go, but haven't heard much about which suspension lifts to go with. Also, there are so many options with either, that I get very confused (the novice wrench monkey I am). Which brings me to my next question. Are both leveling kits and suspension lifts moderately easy to install with a little ingenuity and hard work? I can follow instructions...

Please post your opinion: pros and cons for these two.

Please give me advice based on your own experiences.

Please post pictures if you have done either to a similar truck.

Once we get the leveling/lift kit figured out, we will discuss tire and wheel size.

Thanks to all,

Nick

You might want to check this kit out if your considering a 3" lift.....Rough Country 3" Suspension Kit

I have looked at that lift, and have heard good things about rough country, but I was curious as to why it only comes with two shocks for the rear? I guess because the rear shocks have to be longer once you place the blocks in there. But I figured new shocks for the front would be necessary as well...

Also, do I need the new upper control arms and the new ball joints? They mentioned trimming as well. What exactly do they mean by trimming. I definitely don't want to do cutting of any kind...

You don't need new front shocks (They are actually struts) because your not "extending" them,All your doing is pushing the controls arms "down" and changing the geometry by placing strut spacers between the struts and the frame.

Get the "Premium Kit" with the new upper control arms and you don't need to do any trimming,Trimming is required if you get the "Standard Kit" without new arms.

You can download the instructions from that link,Here they are for the premium kit...Premium Kit Instructions

I think that might be your only choice for 3" of lift. It comes with rear shocks only b/c you are not changing the travel distance in the front suspension. You are just changing where the suspension settles. In other words you are not changing the distance the front strut has to travel so a longer one is not needed. The new arms and balljoints aren't totally nessecary. They are slightly differnent from stock to help alleviate some of the added stress caused by the new angles the suspension will rest at. A drop bracket is included to help with your CV angles. Trimming is required to the bumpstops, but with the new arm, they must clear it or something.

Edit: Ms3dale beat me to it.

skyjacker does a 3" lift at a greater cost than the RC ,, CST does a 4" and so does Rancho ..

the Rancho will work with your stock wheel / tire package - jump up to 285's or toyo open county mt's 285/75-17's have a 34.1 OD

Might as well get the Fabtech 6 inch and some 35's. Go big or go home!

The Rough Country leveling kit if fine, but the RC 3" suspension kit is complete TRASH. Search the suspension forums and you will find all that you need.

i actually have the rough country leveling kit and it does fine but my friend has the 3" RC suspension lift and you can really tell a big difference between the two, his sits a lot higher he is also on 35" tire wise.
