A thousand curses...!

So I spent half a day last weekend hanging up hundreds of outdoor holiday lights and getting them burning.  Tonight I come home from work...about a third of them are now-as I type this-OUT.   :sneek:  :sneek:  :sneek:

Looks like I'm gonna drag the ladder back out Friday and play with them again!   Every year I say "this is the last time I put all these lights up"...and every year I do it again.   :stupid:

I agree. I had about 5 strands of lights all tangled up. I finally got pissed and got the wire cutters. I sucessfully distroyed 5 strands of lights. I cut until there wasnt anything left to cut. I feel a lot better now Cutting christmas light releaves a lot of stress. Now, off to the store to buy more lights for me to cut up next year.

They are definately a pain.  Madfish glad you got ride of some stress.  I didnt think Hy-Vee was that stressfull.

Lights can be frustrating, but when they are all working together, they are a very nice sight to see if done tastefully.  (IE. don't have Santa looking on at the baby Jesus in the manger)  We have a 10' diameter wreath we put on the machine shed each year.  Hard as heck to put up, but with all the compliments we get from it, its worth it.  I've got a few pics of it somewhere.

Our lights are great, because when one light goes out, they all do.  Absolute pain in the a$$ to get them all working.  Thats why I plan on throwing them out before they go up, and getting some better ones.  (Or cut them up  LOL)

 

btw, if it was up to me I would rather not see any Christmas lights until the week before Christmas.  When they start playing Christmas songs and putting lights up right after Thanksgiving, I am sick of them by Christmas.

I love putting putting up the lights at Christmas, always plug um in before you put um up.  And just in case always pick up a few new sets the week AFTER Christmas, a lot cheaper.  Then the next year if you have a set giving you trouble for 4 or 5 bucks or less you can just toss um, or save them for the spare bulbs.  I've also found it is chaeper to buy a whole set after Christmas and just use them for spare bulbs.  Doesn't look good for me this year on putting up the lights though, too busy, no time.

My dad decided this yr that he is starting a business next yr.  Rent xmas lights from us and he will put them up.  (we have so many extra sets its amazing).  My mom switched last yr from reg lights to icicles.

Mike, it is when most of the people that work for you make Jethro Bodine look like a rocket scientist. I got one guy who cant read. One who's an ex-boxer(not a very good one apparently). I have to tell him every night how to do stock the shelves and face everything to the front. I guess he spent more time kissing the mat then he did boxing. Plus add the night stock manager I have been training for 2 months, that cant seem to learn. He has sucessfully screwed up everything he can. I got more stuff on backstock then I do on the shelves. Now, they are bringing in some new ordering system that wont work unless every single person that works in the store works with the computer that does the ordering. Well, no one works together now, why the hell are they going to work together when they get the system going.

 

Sorry, that got a little long didnt it. I had to stop myself, my blood pressure was getting a little high. Almost wanted to go back to the store to rip some people new a-holes. But, I'll wait until saturday to do that. That way I riun thier weekend as well

I put mine up last night in the dark. Wife said get them up, I said for the net 14 days I won't get home till after dark. She said put them up anyway. So there I was till ten o'clock and still had to get up at 4:00 this morning.   Oh well they are upand she was happy ;)  ;)  and so was I I did get some "what the hell" looks from cars passing by. ???

I totally understand what everyone is talking about.  Two years ago, I put up lights.  We were brand new for less than a month in our first house right before Christmas.  I just _had_ to put some up.  Well, after scaring myself to death that I was gonna fall off the roof (city-kid, thanks), and after taking two-three days to do it (it would start to rain 20 minutes after I started working on it), I finally finished it in pouring rain at 11:00pm, but it was worth it.

 

 

I didn't do it last year 'cause we went to my parents for Christmas.  Haven't decided about this year yet, but it's been raining here in Oregon for like the last 2 weeks.  I really don't enjoy playing with lights in the 40-degree rain.

    That looks good.  Nice and clean and simple.  As of right now , all my lights are actually burning   .  Oh well...
