Filing Chapter 11 does NOT mean they are going out of business.

 

As long as GM is doing business, your warranty will still be honored.

 

GM is not going out of business anytime soon. And the sky is not falling.

The warranty will still be good. If it's no good, then just mod the crap out of your truck because you wont worry about voiding the warranty!

Chapter 11 would only keep GM afloat for a short time without major reorganization. If that didn't work, your warranty would be worthless.

 

Whether we like to admit it or not, GM has serious problems. Chapter 11 is certainly in their future if a LOT of things don't change. The UAW has posted that they will not budge on wages and that they are not the problem... which is typical behavior for the them. They will continue sucking the GM corpse until the last drop of blood is gone. It isn't just the union though. GM has real management and internal problems that have to be fixed...NOW.

 

They have only had since the 70s when the Japs started importing quality small cars in large numbers to solve their issues, but chose to **** us instead.

I agree the UAW has got to go . If the big 3 can drop their wages they are paying down to a realistic level then they will be competitive again. Hard to say the markets are free when foreign auto makers have no union requirements and their payscale for labor is lower...its a no brainer that they will have a lower cost burden to bear. As for my warranty I'm not concerned at all GM will be around for a long time to come. We are all going through a bad time....business is not immune....

I don't think it's unfair that the Japanese have sense enough to put their factories where they can avoid the blackmailing unions and their bullshit. What is unfair is the hijacking of American manufacturers BY the unions. Hard to blame that on the Japs.

 

I don't think the sky is falling either. GM will sruvive... hopefully a slimmed down and healthy, competitive GM.

I hope GM doesn’t go under. Not only could it jeopardize my warranty, but there are reports that 1 in 10 or 12 US jobs are tied into the automotive industry. The unions are not completely to blame but they are a major problem. Yes the management is also to blame, but there is no way to survive with the current financial structure that they have in place. They need to cut the fat from the payroll and that needs to begin with the unions and upper management immediately. Unions are great for worker rights, but are horrible for the wages that they have to pay.
