Low Coolant Message Light?

After I've driven my 2001 Yukon XL Yukon for about an hour and I make a full stop my low coolant message light comes on and stays on. My temperature gauge reads normal, there is no loss of coolant in the coolant tank and the engine is NOT overheating. When I turn off the ignition and restart the engine everything is OK until I stop again. Is there a sensor that need replacing? Could someone explain what the problem might be? Thanks. Tom

is it just low enough that the fluid moves when you brake hard, enough to light the light? Try adding a little...I've seen my cars have done this when the brake fluid is just a little low too (brake light when hard stopping)...

I did check the levels and they were ok, but I'll add a little bit more to eliminate this possibility. Tom

I'm thinking easiest fix first, possibly is the sensor, or the wiring connection.

Same thing happened on my 2000 Silverado 5.3. I topped if off and the light shut off. A couple of months later the warning light came back on. I investigated it a little further to find that I had a leak. Coolant was leaking where the water pump connects to the engine. Had to have water pump replace, and went a head and flushed the entire coolant system. Leak occured at 75,000 miles. Just an FYI to keep an eye out for leaks if your warning light comes back on.

Change your coolant overflow reservoir....common problem, sensor is located in it and not replaceable by it's lonesome.

Had the same problem on my 2002 - light would come on - I would add some to the resovior, and a month later it came on again. Ended up the water pump had a pin hole leak in it - one that I couldn't see. I looked for leaks in the system and never found any drips or anything. Ended up having it replaced under warranty - that was somewhere around the 80K mark...I have 120K now.

Ive had just to opposite problem. When I had my coolant problems my light never came on. But now im in a habit of watching it 2 times a week both hot and cold.
