Pick A Year - Sierra 2004 - 2008

I've sort of decided to skip purchasing a new 2008 Sierra and instead search for a used 2004 - 2008 or wait until later next year when the 6-speed auto is available with the extended cab. In either case I'll be looking for a 5.3L V8. What year would offer the best bang for the buck?

"Best bang for the buck" depends on what you want to do with the truck and how many bucks you want to spend. You might get better answers, if you explained what you're wanting/needing to do with the truck.

Seriously though, a used '07 or '08 would get you the best bang for your buck.

Replacing my Tacoma with something that will tow our small travel trailer, which is about 4000 lbs. We might get a larger trailer soon that weights about 6000 lbs.

Wait a couple months and you'll be able to purchase a new truck for the price you are looking at the new trucks for now. with the way the banks are going to squeeze automakers they will have no choice but to lower the prices instead of playing the incentive game.

 

The GMT900 Sierra is the nicest imho as the GM800 looks dated now ;)

Well, not quite enough said...

 

I think that the GMT900 trucks are enough of an improvement over the GMT800s that I wouldn't even consider a GMT800 (unless it was a diesel). I haven't checked, but I'm sure that there are plenty of used 2007 GMT900s on the market that could be had relatively cheap. If the price is still too high for you, I would suggest waiting a few months. As the economy continues to slide, you'll find better and better deals. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

If I were buying a used GM truck right now, I'd probably get a low mileage 2007 GMT-900 truck. The newer body-style will tend to depreciate less, because - as someone else pointed out - the GMT-800 trucks "look old" now. Older "looking" models tend to decrease in value more quickly. Of course, if you're going to keep it for 10 yrs, the whole resale value thing goes out the window.. A 2006 vs. a 2007 won't have "that" much of a difference in value 10 yrs from now.

 

As Will said, though, the GMT-900's are a nice step up from the GMT-800 trucks. I'd probably lean towards the newer model, myself.

Yeah, I guess it wasn't "enough" for you, though.. You had to go & exaggerate it... Come to think of it, you stick with your truck. I'd hate to see what you might do to a GMT-900!

Hell no, no plasti-dip on a GMT900. No bodyline = awkward as hell for a two-tone.

 

Oh that and the fact that I only have about $300 to my name... Sometimes I almost regret spending about $2k on my truck this summer, then I look at old pictures, and it makes being almost broke a lot easier.
