Shaking Problem!

ok i have a 2007 gmc sierra 1500 with the stock 20's on it, well i decided to put my other 20" wheels and tires on that i had on my old truck. I got them on and went for a drive to make sure they are ok and the truck drives perfect, no vibration or shaking or nothing, BUT when i apply the brakes there is a terrible shake/vibration all the way up through the brake pedal....so what does this mean??

maybe not torqued correctly, or those 20"s may weigh more than the ones you took off??? Someone here will be able to help

When changing the wheels you didn't knock an ABS sensor did you? As the vibration up through the brake pedal sounds like ABS kicking in. Does the truck pull to one direction when you brake now?

 

If you put your old wheels on, does the vibration go away?

i don't know.....it doesn't make sense, yes they are torqued correctly.....these wheels are heavier but i cant see why that would matter....and it doesn't feel like the ABS kicking in...

I had warped rotors on one of the Jeeps I owned and had the same problem as you are describing. It could be that.

yea but how could they be warped? it was perfectly fine before i put these other wheels on...

there are clips you have to take off..

 

the stock wheels are cut out for the clips i believe and if you don't take the clips off for after market wheels it will shake...

clips? where are these clips at? i didn't see any clips....

there has been a couple threads on this...

 

they are small and on the studs.. i think there are 2 per side and only on the back (drums)

There are clips on the rear drums that keep the drums in place during manufacturing. OEM wheels have a recess designed specifically to avoid these clips, after market wheels do not. Unless these clips are removed, you will experience shaking while braking. Run outside and remove your rear wheels, remove the retaining clips with a screwdriver and some needle nose pliers (you can trash them) and you'll be golden. Once that's complete, find a new wheel and tire shop because the guys you are dealing with apparently have no idea what they are doing. This is nothing new whatsoever. Good luck!

Yep, it's the clips on the rear studs.
