FIPK Gen II by K&N

I installed the K&N FIPK Gen II on my '00 Silverado about 400-500 miles ago.  The computer has had time to make it's adjustments and I've picked up about 3/4 mpg's along with the added power.  My driving is almost all in town.  My last tank had about 180 miles in town and 150 on the highway...  (In town means short trips and no engine temps).

I got 15.6 mpg's on that tank...  I've been averaging in the 14's before that so it has to be the FIPK kit.

It also makes it sound like there is a 4-barrel under the hood when you nail the throttle.  (I love the sound, so maybe my fuel milage would be better if I just drove a little more conservative!!!)

I documented my installation and gave it to Mervs, so look for it in the tech center (or wherever he wants to put it) in the future.

That's good to hear.

What does FIPK stand for?

Anybody know if it's the same FIPK for the 6.0L engine?

My guess is, it is the same. I've heard the Z71's have the same air cleaner as the 6L. I would call or check out the website of truckperformance.com.

My guess is that it will work also...  K&N probably does not have it listed, and they don't have the '01 5.3L listed.  I know there is no difference, between the'00 and'01 but they (K&N) don't have CARB approval yet.  Carb is something like "California Air Regulatory Board" (maybe some of West coast guys can confirm that for me).

I was waiting for the K&N FIPK for the 01’s since Feburary. K&N said it would be ready in May, waiting for C.A.R.B approval. In May I called them, then they said late July. K&N said they didn’t even put on the 01’s to see if it would fit. As far as I know the 00’s & 01’s are the same. Got tired of waiting, ordered the one that would fit the 00. It fit my 4.8L 01 like a glove (part #57-3021, listed for 4.8L & 5.3L 99-00). The tech article helped on install (thanks guys). It looks great under the hood. At 1st I wasn’t impressed but could tell a difference. At the end of the 1st gas tank I was really glad I got it. Better torque & gas mileage even after jumping on it a lot to test it out.

Nice complement to the 4.8L also!!

I paid ? including tax at a local performance shop.

I've heard that these can be kind of noisy?   Or maybe I'm just thinking or the cold air intakes for the ricers.  Is it true they are loud?

In normal everyday driving you don't even know they are under the hood.  If you tromp on it and have the stock exhaust you will be able to hear the air flowing...  it sounds like a four barrel opening up (kinda cool).  The only time I hear mine is when I'm passing someone, or climbing a long steep grade and trying to accelerate.  It's very rare that you'd notice it except at the gas pumps, because 3/4 to 1 mpg gain is reasonable.  (The stock air box must be really restrictave).

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
