Haggling Bedliner Prices

Alright, my dad and grandmother are going to get me a spray-in bedliner as a Christmas present and I'm pretty sure I want to go with LINE-X, preferably the XTRA. So, deciding the brand isn't the issue. The cheapest I can get either of the local dealers to go with the LINE-X XTRA is $575 (regular is $425, and color-matched XTRA is $675 :thumbs:). Actually, only one has responded since I emailed them both at the same time a week ago :lol:. Do you think I have any chance at haggling down to $500 or close to it? I mean, my great uncle was able to get a Rhino Linings bedliner for a mere $200 this past summer. I know they tend to run cheaper than LINE-X, but damn! At that rate I could get a color-matched Rhino Linings HardLine bedliner for less than the plain, black, original LINE-X.

 

Also, do you guys think the XTRA would be worth it? My truck is kept outside and most likely will be until if/when I sell it. From my undersanding, XTRA will be more fade-resistant and obviously stronger, as well. My next-door neighbor has a LINE-X lining (I believe it's just the regular liner) and it's a little worn and slightly faded. His bed gets a bit more use, but his truck, too, sits outside.

I don't see why not...Never hurts to ask.

 

If they are local... go by in person... see if you can talk to the manager.

 

Explain that you are GOING TO GET a bedliner of SOME TYPE and that you really like the Line-X, and you don't want to go with Rhino, but you will if you have to. Do this in a VERY NICE AND POLITE way.

 

Do not be confrontational at this point... you are ASKING HIM to HELP YOU. :thumbs:

 

Explain to him that you REALLY REALLY would like to have the Line-X XTRA... but that times are tuff and you have limited money to get it done and then ASK (very politely) if there is ANYTHING AT ALL he can do to help you out.

 

Won't hurt anything.... the worst they can say is "NO, that is our price.. Take it or leave it".

 

Best case... they knock some $ off of the price.

I think you'll have good luck in negotiating something...

 

The economy is slow right now. You're getting sveral of the same product. I think they'll talk turkey with ya.

When I go my Line-X done. The person said the bst thing to do is just do the regualr Line-X first and if it starts to fade then go back and had the Line Xtra it will bring it back up to like you just bought it.

Maybe, but how much is it when you go back to have the XTRA added?

I called the local dealer a month ago about prices and was given a quote for the job. He asked when he could schedule the job and I said I hadn't decided yet between a spray-in liner and a Bed Rug. He immediately discounted the price by $50.00 if I would schedule that day. So - yes they will negotiate!

LINE-X Xtra is about the best "bang for your buck" that you can get in a spray-on bedliner. It's truely a great product and Rhino does not have such a product.

 

Also, according to Rhino's technical specs (which I have), LINE-X has a 31% higher tear resistance over Tuff Grip and Hardline and LINE-X has a 25 degree higher temperature tolerance.

 

Here's a pic of black Xtra that's AT LEAST two years old. The bed is a little dirty, but other than that, it's black and sparkles in the sun like the day it was applied.

LINE-X Xtra is the way to go may cost a little more but is beter than rhino (due to much research and actual comparison) and is cheaper to have it done now than to add the Xtra later - also check LINE-X web site - when I got my truck done - a rebate was avail after you had your receipt - this was in July - maybe they have something else going on - Buef1

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but what is the extra? As far as negotiating, I think you can do it, everyone is hurting right now, and it's all in the delivery!

EXTRA is for extra dense people who still think thick rubbery paint is actually a bed liner. They figure that if people are willing to buy the regular for 500 bucks, they might as well fleece them for an additional hundred by calling it "extra" :lol:

 

Many of these people actually believe that Bose makes good stereo equipment too.

Man, I don't think the guy I'm emailing with would discount at all, at least not for that reason. He'd probably just ignore it or say go ahead and get the Bed Rug, then. I'm sure it'd be different in person, but he really seems like he won't budge easy like the guys the sell Rhino Linings do. My dad and grandmother will cover the cost, but it really just seems so high. I figured I could at least try to bring down the price a bit. Here's the email conversation I had with the local dealer:

 

What's the cheapest I can get a LINE-X XTRA bedliner for a regular 6' 6" bed? I've been quoted at $300 for a Rhino HardLine bedliner. Do you offer a similar price? Also, how much extra would it cost to have it color matched? Thanks!

 

Graham, If you have not seen the Line-X spray on liner I would suggest you come by our store and see the difference in the two products. If you are looking for the cheapest price you probably need to stick with Rhino. If your looking for the best product then Line-x is the way to go. Visit our website, you will see the difference. Blog Line-X and see what people are saying. If you have a nice truck, why not put the best product into protecting your bed. I have been spraying Line-X for 15 years. Alright, that sounds pretty reasonable for the plain black LINE-X XTRA. Hopefully I'll have my truck out there sometime this month (I'll contact you before I do). Thanks for the quick reply!

 

I misuderstood your email. I quoted you for the standard black and did not add for the XTRA. The XTRA is an additional $149.00. Please accept my appology. I wanted to let you know before you made any plans. THANK YOU!

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
