Question About Changing Hvac Controls.

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have the non digital hvac controls with the rear defroster that also turns on the heated mirrors. I was wondering if I could switch it to one of the digital ones like this one below. I also wanted to know if it would be plug and play or not. One of the other pictures shows a spot for for two harnesses on big and one small. Thanks for your help.

nope, not plug and play. the "digital" one is the dual automatic HVAC unit that relies on the sensor in the top of the dash (near the base of the windshield) and a little sensor with a fan that is in the headliner that is above the front driver's head. If these sensors are not installed (the proper sensors), the the auto HVAC unit will not know when to cool down or warm up the truck. The way that the auto HVAC system works is you set the system to the desired temp that you want and based on whether it is cold or hot, the head unit automatically adjusts to meet the preset temperature.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the lights are replaceable in the non automatic control. I have a light that is burned out on the passenger side temp switch. I wanted to know if there is a way to replace the light that is out.
