I want to disable the annoying chime on my 2000 half-ton Sierra. Eight yoears of hearing that is enoung. I've got the source, the "engine Control Module" out of it's bracket and dangling by the wiring harness's.

If I disconnect those harnesses to access the guts and thus the chime, will my truck start right up upon reassembly? Thanks, flusher

The PCM only controls the engine & transmission operation. There is no ECM on your vehicle they went away in the 1992.

Does the sound come FROM the module or is it through the speakers like some other models?

If it comes from the module, I'd tape pver it and muffle the noise down to a non-objectionable level. Just a suggestion.

It is definatly coming from the box. Tape is a good idea. I think I'll try that before I go disconnecting wires, etc...Thanks...theflusher4

If you can post a picture of what's making the noise / what you're wanting to mess with, someone might be able to tell you whether or you can simply unplug it, without causing any harm / unexpected results.

Is that why you bought the nicest looking GM truck....to offset the ugly and draw the attention away from you? :M16:

Not really... If you read what I wrote, I opened the door. :D

I know how you people are about stepping into stuff.... :M16:

You should see the VERY disappointed looks on guys faces, when they pull up next to the truck, see the long hair, and then I look over at them and they realize "uuuuuugh!! It's a DUDE!! What The F...!?!?!?" I think it's funny, but I'm sure they don't. :D:D:D

Speaking of... Dan probably used to have that happen to him (if he'll admit to it)... Maybe they weren't as disappointed in him, though! :D

At a restaurant once, a waiter who was standing behind me said, "would you like some Parmesan cheese on that, ma'am?"

I just turned around with a grin on my face, and watched him turn beet red. He apologized for about 2 minutes. I was laughing my ass off once he left.

hahaha! Yeah, I've had something similar happen a time or two..

To me, the funniest ones are the guys "trying to get a look," while they're moving through traffic.. Then they see big ol' me, with the graying goatee, etc... Not at ALL what they were expecting or hoping to see!

I told a friend of mine about it a few days ago and he got a good laugh out of it. "You hurt those guys, man! That's just wroooong!" But, the whole time he was saying that, he was laughing his head off.

Oh -- and I forgot something, last night...

Is that why you bought the nicest looking GM truck....

I think there was a compliment in there somewhere.. So, Thanks, Jeff!! :D

FLUSHER.........Your truck should have a seperate plug in chime module

located on the interior firewall down by the steering wheel column.

Just unplug it. My 01 had it as should yours.

My 04 it was generated thru the radio.
