Right front axle continues to leak even after dealer replaced seal twice under warranty-its now out of warranty-(40k-has seen very limited 4 wheel drive use) i hate to throw another seal at it and have it continue to leak-any permanent fixes?? A different seal or sleeve? Any info would be helpful-I dont mind doing the job myself-(a mechanic for over 30yrs) if it would fix it! Also vent hose is clear-Thanks

Local ace wrench told me to forget about seals. Same story you're telling. He said that he don't fill the front differential to factory level. I followed his advice and have 140K miles on my '02 w/o any problems.

Hey PD, did you have any luck with this? I have a 2003 1500 4x4 with a 123K on it and the drivers side just started leaking...it has been maintained religiously since new with Mobil synthetic in the front diff and I just changed it about 1500 miles ago...but just started leaking...I *may* have overfilled it a lil bit...thinking about dropping the level just slightly.

After a bit of searching on here this seems pretty common but I did not see a really good right up on seal replacment procedure for the DIY'er...any tips?

THANKS!!!!

I lowered the level on mine and it stopped leaking- service manual says 1/2 to 5/8 below filler hole.

Whole lot better than replacing seal-especially the driver side is way more work than pass side!
