Alright folks, I've got a dilemma and I'm hoping here that someone would have some advice for me.

I'm living in London right now, and moving to Toronto in the summer. My dad is taking over the lease on my truck, and I'm letting him because he wants to buy my truck anyways.

So anyways, if anyone here knows what Toronto is like, I won't be needing a vehicle much anyways because public transit is waaaay easier.

When I end up getting another vehicle, I want another Silverado or Sierra 4x4 just to drive as my primary vehicle - It's hard to get out of a truck into a car.

I was wondering if I bought maybe a '97 or so Sierra or Silvy in good shape would cost a lot to maintain???

I don't want a brand new truck because I know it will get dinged up like crazy and I want to be able to be rough and have fun with the truck without fearing anything will break on it. (I want real bumpers). I'm figuring that I'd get one with a rebuilt or new engine and transmission - and everything else should be inexpensive to fix should something go wrong - right?

The key there is if it is in good shape. The GMT400 trucks are awesome vehicles. I have a 1995 GMC with 175000miles on the 5.7l. It has had some transmission issues, but from what I have heard from a couple transmission guys, the 95's did have a problem. For my 1995 I can only use a 95 tranny case. Anyway, since the rebuild I have had very few problems with that truck. I have put an alternator on it a couple years ago, the blower motor went out a few months ago, but other than that it's been normal maintenance. It's a great truck and unless I need the money or someone offers me the right price, I plan on having it for ever.

well i would look for one with mainly highway miles but i love those trucks with the 5.7 they are strong runners. i have seen many running strong with over 200k on them. My friends got one with 130k on it and its a '96 the truck has run strong and is actually pretty quick. the only main problems he has had are a bad water pump and a bad output shaft seal. other wise it has been a great truck. i would definatly encourage you to buy one. it seems as though those have less electrical problems the the generation mine is from.
