"heated" Exterior Mirrors

Recommended Posts

My truck supposedly has "heated" exterior mirrors. But I'm not convinced that they're working. The back window defrosts quite well, but the mirrors don't really warm up, or melt any ice off of them, at least that I can tell?

Do they just work very poorly / slowly? Anyone else experience this?

My '08 has the heated mirrors and heated back glass. The heated mirrors work exceedingly well and when they first get power for heating, you'll see concentric ring tracks through the frost or ice. You should also be able to feel the warmth through the mirror glass. That is the observation I have with this truck, and the older one in the signature below.

I've only had to use my rear defrost once so far since buying the truck new this summer and I also noticed that the rear window defrosted quickly but the mirrors did not appear to melt any of the snow. Now take into consideration that it has been -10 to -30 here as of late and combine that with the windchill and maybe it's just too cold to melt it.

Have not had a chance to use mine as of yet! I have heard mixed results! I would assume it all depends on the conditions that they are being used in.

Granted I don't have the same truck as you but my heated mirrors work very well IMO. I'm sure if it's really cold out then they would take awhile to melt any ice.

Both the stock mirrors and the towing mirrors both worked extremely well at getting rid of the frost build up, and you can feel the warmth of the glass after about 5 minutes of it being on.

My last Silverados heated mirrors worked excellent, turn it on and then put your hand on the mirror and see if you feel anything.

i have had to use mine a couple of times this year, the rear defrost worked quite well as well as the drivers side mirror. i dont think my passenger mirror is heated though.

Take it to the dealer and complain. I have heated mirrors and I noticed that the passenger side would melt and the driver side didn't. They found the driver side to be shorted out. I was really surprised because this was still in the fall and I have only turned on the rear defrost once or twice before and the truck only had about 5000 miles on it. I think you probably have a electrical problem of some sort. Either way, if your under warranty let them figure it out.
