A Sad Ending

Growing up in Seattle I root for all their teams, but not as much as the 'Hawks.I watched one game on Monday Night in the early '80s when the Seahawks thoroughtly whooped the Raiders..man what a feeling.Zorn was unbeatable....it's a sad ending for Holmgren to end his coaching career with a year like this one. My only hope is he will get tired of Seattle getting their shit brought to 'em and come back and set things right....JMO

it was cool though when they whipped the Jets last week, with a back-up QB,sorry Dan

I think it was kind of sorry for them to announce that we was leaving so early in the season. Even if management "knew," I don't think they should've announced it and further demoralized / demotivated the team like they did.

Ya know what? I agree with you 1000%.Maybe if they would've waited there could've been a chance for a better season. But didn't they say a couple of years ago Mike didn't intend to renew his contract? That's a long time to keep a thing like this quiet

Yeah, but holding a press conference and basically telling everyone "he's a lame duck coach - don't bother listening to him or buying into what he says this year, because he's a goner next year" ... c'mon..!? They could've done something better than that.

OK,I agree, why in the hell did they do that? Who knows. What happens if nobody knows about his exit? Maybe they have a good year, maybe not.I think they,(the players)don't need any distractions keeping them from devoting all their time & efforts towards getting ready to play football on a pro level.I would guess he had alot of the media who kept bugging him about re-newing his contract,is it concievable he got tired of that and announced he would not return as the coach just so they would leave him alone? I keep thinking this thru and it just doesn't make sense, and then what happens next year? There are guys under contract to play for the 'Hawks but will their hearts be in it? I hope Mora can get these guys inspired. It's always a bad thing to see a team who went to the Superbowl fall on bad times a year or two later and are never the same.

I could be wrong, but I thought it was the owners, not the media, who were pressuring him.. I think they were in a rush to sign Jim Mora as the next coach.

Honestly, after seeing Brett Favre talk about retirement and then not ... and then retirement and then not... I can't say that I blame Seattle for not wanting Holmgren to "linger," if he's thinking he may leave. But, I think they could've had non-disclosures and other things in place to keep people from talking. "Jim, you're the coach next year, but if you say squat to anyone and word gets out, we'll fine you half your first year's salary. Got it??" "Ok, Mike, you're outta here at the end of the year. But, if you say squat to anyone before the year's over, we'll fine you half of your last year's salary. Got it??"

Sorry we had friends show up at the door....I'm thinking the owners,no I'll rephrase that,I know the owners control the NFL,after all it is their league. It's been a while since this whole Holmgren prob started. What happens when a coach wants out before his contract is up,let's say retire,or maybe he doesn't want to coach his team anymore. At what point do they(the team owner)start looking for alternatives?Wouldn't it be normal if Holmgren came back to coach next year?Favre,Jordan,Clemons et al all over again? Please pardon me as I'm on #9,I just think there's more here than meets the eye,I would hope Holmgren has a need to empart his knowledge on the newer players, admit it,the guy's a winner and he'll go out being known for that

I don't know a ton about the situation. But, from the outside looking in (from waaaaay out Texas way), I think the owners got in a hurry to get on to the "next" guy, the "new" guy, the "young" guy (at least in comparison to Mike H). That still doesn't mean they had to go about it this way.

Yeah,I know..I just hope Seattle fields a competitive team next year...time will tell.Holmgren turned a doormat into a feared team....for a while I was a happy man,I hope Mora can do the same or at least similar.Gotta have faith........

Come to think of it, when I first saw the thread last night, I had similar thoughts. "Maaaan, it's Christmas Eve! I don't want to read about someone's 'ending'... Geeeez! What's he postin' that for!?"
