i have a 77 gmc k10 n i need to replace the ignition switch n i cant figure out how to get it out thanks?

You gotta pull the steering wheel and turn signal mechanism. There's a screw in there that holds it in.Once you have it apart you'll see. You'll also need a special tool to re-install the lockplate. You really need to get a repair manual,it's all in there.I have several Haynes',and use 'em alot.

As grampadirt said, steering wheel removal is necessary and requires special tools. The retainer, however, is the old spring type, and, if original, is hidden behind a thin metal punch-out. If you have never tackled a Saginaw column before, get someone who has to help out. The stramer ring that holds on the lockplate is a pain to remove without bending it out of shape.

If your willing to put in the work to swap the steering column out i would encourage you to try fixing the one you have first....nothing wrong with trying...Its not really that hard to do just take your time and you will be fine..hands on experience is the best learning tool bar none! Good luck ! :D
