Power Lift Gate Stopped Working; Works Again?

It's going to the dealer, but over the holidays the power lift gate on the YD stopped working.

Since we were travelling the truck sat outside in central Wisconsin during very cold days (single digits with negative windchills). During this time the power lift gate would not work. I get back home and let the truck sit in the garage overnight, and the next day the power lift gate works again.

Anyone else expereince this problem for have an explaniation on why cold would cause this? When I bring it to the dealer on Monday I'm sure they'll tell me nothing is wrong since they can't reproduce it.

With a little luck, maybe the module that controls this has recorded a DTC which may show up on the Tech II and provide some sort of explanation....I know with some electrical things on my truck even though the problem isn't there when I take it in, the computer has stored DTC's which help to find the fault.

Do they work with a hydrolic system like the old hatchback's had? Could be the fluid was cold. Just a thought. :D

The gate would go up and stay up, but not automatically. It sounds like it runs on an electric motor connected to a metal rod that raises it.

I meant to say piston in my first post on this. I honestly don't know. Nothing ever work's right when it's cold outside, especially those cold of temps.

There's nothing at all wrong with your liftgate.

Refresh yourself with your owners manual. Rear Liftgate Operation.

"Under extreme heat and cold ambient temperatures, the rear liftgate may not operate automatically..."

I remember doing a PDI (pre-delivery-inspection) last winter, on a brand-new 08 Denali. It was around 5 degrees outside. The liftgate didn't open or close automatically.

I checked the truck a week later after temps warmed up a little bit. Worked ok.

You have nothing to worry about.

Must have missed that page when I was reading through the owners manual checking the fuse and other things.

Saved yourself from working on that next week since it will be at LeMay :D
