Headrest Dvd Compatibility- Please Help

In my haste to save a buck, I bought a GM headrest DVD system on ebay. It is GM part #19155568. Problem is, now I'm discovering that this system is for the GMT800 trucks, and my new 08 Sierra Denali is apparently a GMT900.

Does anyone know if this system will still work in my truck? Specifically, will the wiring harness be okay with my GMT900?

Looks like a pretty involved install, so before I tear into things, I thought I'd look for an answer here with you good people. Thanks in advance.

I mean, surely GM used the same wiring harnesses in these trucks, right? If it ain't broke...

The instructions are titled, "Dual DVD Headrest System (Avalanche/Denali/Escalade/Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon)". They don't really make specific mention as to compatibility with a GMT900.

The wiring harness came in its own plastic bag with a sticker that reads, "GMT800 Vehicle Specific Pack". That's part of what has me spooked. The harness itself has two plastic plugs, one at each end. There are only two wires ultimately running the length of the harness, one red, and the other black. One plug is smaller than the other, and only has the two connector plastic clip. The other end has a six connector clip, but all but two of them are dummies.

The install looks like it requires quite a bit of tear down and reassembly, and it would be a bummer to get everything torn apart only to discover the thing won't work. I should've done my homework. Any ideas anyone can offer are much appreciated. Thanks.

What do the instructions say for hooking up the wiring harness? Does the wiring harness interface with the stereo head unit?

With only knowing what the description says about the headrest units, I would guess that the wiring harness would cross connect the headrest for cross video display, then the wiring harness would connect to some existing connector on the truck for power and ground.

Is there any sort video controller box? Or in the package is there just the headrests, and wiring harness?

I believe these are stand alone headrest units that don't interface with the in dash stereo. I know that you load the dvd's directly into the units, and the audio plays only through the headphones that come with them, or through your FM channel through modulation.

It says the 6 pin connector of the jumper harness connects to the under dash accessory connection box. There is also a Control Box that needs to be installed.

I'm sorry, I'm extremely ignorant when it comes to such things.

No worries there! :sigh:

Ah... It's with the underdash accessory connection box that you'd have a problem with I'd say as the GMT900's don't have an accessories connection box (well, not an implemented one anyway). I'm don't know how the headrest monitors for the GMT900's hook up. But I would say that your wiring harness would need the lines for constant power, accessory power (BCM signal for remote power on), and ground. The problem you've got sounds similar to that of wiring a aftermarket radio. It does sound like a solvable problem, but some creativity may be required.

Another thought. The wiring harness for GMT900's may be available separately through a dealer or something like gmpartsdirect.com.

if the plug only has 2 wires a red and a black u are, cut the plug off and wire to a ground and a switched ignition source and u should be fine, they are deff available under the dash

an easy way to test this is strip a bit of the red and black back or slide 2 seperate wires into the molex connector red to positive terminal on battery and black to ground just have someone hold em down and the units should power up for testing

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably wait until it gets a little warmer out and then enlist one of my more tech savvy buddies to help (I'm a dunce), or maybe I'll just put these things back up on e-bay. Or maybe use the forum's For Sale page. Frankly, the grey leather on these headrests is a close match - but not an exact match - to the leather in my truck. I think in the long run, that'd start to bother me. This was clearly my fault for not paying closer attention to what I was buying.

Again, thanks to all who responded!
