1999 Nbs 4.8 Intake Gasket?

I HAVE A 1999 4.8 NBS AND I KEEP SEEING FLUID JUST BEHIND THE WATER PUMP ON TOP,LOOKS LIKE OIL BUT I HAVE NOTICED THE COOLANT IN THE COOLANT TANK HAS DROPPED A LITTLE BUT I HAVE NOT ADDED ANY,JUST HAD THE WATER PUMP CHANGED BACK INT THE SPRING OF 2008,TRUCK HAS ABOUT 108K ON IT NOW,ANY IDEAS??THANKS

You have a DRY intake manifold...no coolant passes thru it.

 

One of two things leaking...either your throttle body hoses are weak, and allowing coolant to escape; or crossover steam tube, that runs from cylinder head to cylinder head, is leaking.

Depending on your mechanical skills, they are relatively easy fixes and not too expensive. Those engines are prone to having water pump gasket leaks at times too, so I would check very well to confirm the source of the leak.... before you "fix" something that isn't the problem.

I'd probably fix it just in case it is about to turn into a bad leak and really cause a problem... but I guess that depends on what it is and how much it leaks. Since you had the water pump replaced already, I'd at least keep a really close eye on it and make sure the reservoir stays full.
