Does The G80 (locking Differential) Lock Up In Reverse?

I was wondering if the G80 rear end in a K3500 should lock up when the truck is in reverse. I couldn't tell for sure last night when I was backing up the hill in the snow (in my yard) if both wheels locked in.

 

I had the engage the 4WD to get out of the yard. :o

+1. Yes it does. I wondered about that very thing a few months ago so I emailed Eaton, and they confirmed it.

A couple of times backing into my driveway, the locker has kicked in on my 3500.

Too much snow here.....we're expecting snow every day this week.

OK, temporary thread jack (Sorry, Dan!): I have heard that effectively driving with the Eaton G80 can be different than with other 4wd technologies. Is that true? If so, what should I be conscious of when I know that the G80 could engage, or has engaged already (when on a slippery surface)?

 

..Some people complain about the G80, and supporters of it sometimes respond with "You just don't know how to drive with a locking differential". I just want to know what that means....IF there is any validity to the statement.

basically the locker detects how much wheel slippage is going on (difference of the turns of the axles)... and when a certain ammount of rotation has happened... it locks the 2 axles. so if.. for say were in the snow and you gave it enough gas to start spinning one wheel, after a certain ammount of rotation the other side will lock in. but if you drive and dont get much slippage it will not lock. so basically dont go wmfot ( wide mother ******* open throttle ) unless need be =)

i just put new clutch packs in a locker today =) so the g80 is fresh on my mind lol.
