Blower Fan Not Working Properly

Hi,

2003 Suburban 49,000 miles.

My blower fan will not work except when set to 4 or 5.

1,2,3 settings do not function.

Also, my 2000 Impala has similar problem, except only the 1 setting doesn't work on it.

Any ideas as to where to begin troubleshooting?

Thanks.

I am about 98% it's your switch in both, I had one go out twice on my 98' chevy and I was driving my wifes car lastnight and hers only worked on 5 or high, until I go half way home and it quit. It's an easy fix, just pop out the panel after you pull the knob off and unclip the wiring and then either unclip the switch or screw it, then reinstall. Most everything is held in by spring type clips, I would do it when the car or truck is warm, less change something will crack, I have never broke anything doing so. I would think most shops would have each done less than a half hour each.

Resistor is more common.

You could always pull it out and see if there are any burnt spots on the board or if a terminal has melted. Two screws on most resistors, maybe a bezel sheilding it, will be near the blower motor.

Thanks, I have found the other posts mentioning the resistor, I will pull it get part number and order it. I haven't checked dealers yet, but Rockauto.com has it for about $35.00.

Blowwer motor resistor gets my vote. Remove it and look for obvious burned(black) spots on circuit board.

I think I am going with my 2% being wrong not the 98% thinking switch. I fixed my wifes car lastnight, the one that only ran on high then quit. The ppl replying are correct, it was the resistor making it run on high, mine ended up blowing a fuse too.

I have a '03 Suburban too....and same thing is happening! When the blower is on 1-3 I get these wheezing/whiny noises coming from the passenger side and the flow is pretty much non-existent.

Also....when I try and put on the AC, I get the snowflake with the line through it....does this have anything to do with the switch/resistor? FYI, I know the AC is working because I can turn it on in the rear of the vehicle.

Thanks,

Chris
