I'm looking to buy my first shotgun and I think I'm going to get the benelli supernova 12 gauge(either 26 or 28in. barrel) with the comfortech stock in apg camo. I will mostly be using this gun for everything. Turkey, duck, dove, quail, and skeet shooting so I'm really looking for an all around gun. I found the exact one I want for $429 at sportsmans. I've found a couple used but they arent really exactly what I wanted(some matte, some 20 gauge, some only shoot 3 1/2 shells(ill most likely be using 2 3/4 but the supernova can take any size shell) so I think thats the one I'm going to go with after I start working again. The main reason I started this was to see if anyone had it and if anyone has anything else to reccomend under 700 bucks. so thanks in advanced for all your help

Remmy 1100 if you can find one. I gave 300 for mine. Best damn shotgun I ever had. Turned around and bought a LT-20 Mod 1100, Wife shoots it. Shes better than all my hunting buddies! Cant go wrong with the 1100.

The benelli is a sweet gun I have shot my bosses...

But for the money it doesnt seem worth it to me... At the same time I only have a Mossberg 535 12 Ga..

But I can tell you what I like about it...

I like that fact that I can shot 2 3/4 - 3 1/2 I have a moderate choke for fowl and squirrels stuff have that nature and a full choke for deer hunting, I am researching cause I think that I can use an Extra Full Choke too.. Its got a 28in barrel and I am also looking for a slug barrel for it...

One of the best things is that the miltary and I believe some of the armed forces use them...

Its a pump action which I like but for most this is not the case... I think that I paid just over $300 for it but you can get the Mossberg 935 Semi Auto for I believe around $500-600...

I havent found anything that I dont like about it other than the fact that it likes to be cleaned every time its shot.. At least thats my preference...

I am sure that you can find something comparable in Remington... I would buy the Benelli like what you are talking about but I'd rather take the money and buy an Encore with interchangeable barrels to most caliber's....

I have never missed an animal killed everything that I have shot...

+1 on the Mossberg. Its a great all around shotgun. Plus, IMO, it outperforms a comparable Remington and Benelli (shot both, friends guns), mostly because it can take the abuse. I've cleaned mine maybe 5 times in the 10 years I've had it, and it still shoots like the day I got it. And its been dropped in the sand, rained on, and taken hunting every season for each year I've had it. It takes the abuse and still takes out the birds.

I agree with Brian and Eric. Mossberg for money. Remington pumps are an industry standard against which all others are measured. I have a Mossberg 590 tactical that holds 9 in the tube, 1 in the chamber, and 4 in the stock. It will fire every time, no fail. The Benelli is quality product and if that is what you want, you will not be dissappointed.

I've got a Remington 1100 and a Benelli Super 90...And since I got the Super 90, the 1100 sits there all lonely. Benelli cleans in like 20 minutes and requires a bare minimum of tools. Remington requires hours and more (tiny) tools than I care to keep track of.

If you get the Mossberg get one with the dual slide rails. I have an 835 Ulti Mag and it is a great gun. The 835 eats all shells 2-3/4 through 3-1/2. Comes in Camo.

I have Browning (10 ga), Remington, Ithaca, and Baretta (over under) but the Mossberg is the one I went hunting with the most.

I would put my money in for the mossberg.

You can find a model 500 for 200, and a 535 for around 230.

The only difference is the 535 is chambered for 31/2 and the 500 is only 3 in.

With the benelli you are just buying the name..... Now, if you were looking at a high end semi auto competition gun then there is some value in getting a benelli..... but for just a plain jane pump you are wasting money with a benelli.

I'll never recommend anything other than a Remington. I've got a Remington 870 Magnum SP that I will still be shooting when I'm in a wheelchair some day. Benellis are good, but way way way overpriced and overrated. Everybody I hunt with that has them has constant problems with the automatics jamming up.

My dad found an 870 at the bottom of the lake (hooked his foot on the sling) that had been there for no telling how long. He cleaned it up, shot it a while, and when it was never claimed, traded it for a new one.

I've never been a Mossberg fan. I'm sure they're alright, but every one I have ever been around has fallen apart in a relatively short amount of time.

Our 870s get rained on, dropped in the mud, and banged around all the time and we have never, ever had an issue with them.

Do it man.. get a Remington!

If somebody was having a problem with their Benelli jamming...They're not cleaning it after use or abusing the weapon. Mine has been absolutely flawless and well worth the extra coin.

I have exactly the opposite experience :rollin:

I grew up shooting a mossberg that was older that me. I have to admit, after 35 years of abuse it is a little sloppy, but it still works :uhoh:

I have nothing against remingtons though, they are pretty solid guns. I just got used to the mossberg thumb safety and cant get used to a trigger safety.

Always buy the best quality firearm that you can afford. The Mossbergs aren't bad for the money (I have a model 500 tactical close range people killer) but they are hardly the quality of others when used in the field for hunting. You can tell a real difference between the Mossbergs, Remingtons, and other higher priced guns if you really look. Mossberg is a good basic gun. Some Remingtons are quite good but others are pretty cheaply made. There is a reason the others are more expensive.

All good recommendations.

My Shotguns:

Rem. 1100

Benelli Supernova

Beretta Extrema II love it

Beretta Teknys sweetest

Winchester SuperX2 Fast, durable

All good buys, just depends on budget.

You should go to Dick's and see how each one handles, and what feels good to you.
