Is The Oil Life Monitor Olm A Standard Feature?

I have recently purchased an 06 LS 1500 5.3 liter extended cab 4x4. I had the oil changed at the dealership at 3000 miles. The monitor had not come on yet. Is the OLM system an option or does it come standard on all 06 Silverado's??

Should be there for sure. My 01, 05, and 07 have all had it.

I have a 2006 4.3L.

My OLM usually comes on between 6000 and 8000 miles.

I usually change the oil around 5000 miles, so it hardly ever comes on..unless the oil change place forgets to reset it.

Like Jim said the oil life monitor usually comes on 5000+ miles.

We all have that magic 3000mile number ground into our brains, but with todays oils and engines oil changes that often are really not needed.

The oil life monitor counts down based on your driving habits.

How do you get the readout on what percentage its at now? Is there a button you push? Not sure how you guys are accessing the data on what is left on the oil now Thanks

Only if you have steering wheel controls and the DIC function can you get the % left. Other wise when its time to chance you will get a message that says time to change oil.

When you get that message and you want to turn it off just get in the truck, shut the door, turn the key to on, mash the gas peddle to the floor 3 times with-in 5 seconds, you will get a flashing light. Turn the key off, then start the truck. It should be reset.

I have a cheap 2006. It does not have the DIC readout, just a light on the dash that comes on.

I think you need the DIC readout to be able to access what percentage of oil life is left.
