Hello and thanks for looking. I have a question that im sure i probably could of answered looking through like a FAQ or something. But im hoping this will work just as well if not better. i have an 01 sierra 1500 that i purchased some 06 wheels and tires for. my question is this. How can i tell if my wheels have TPMS on them? Any info will help. Thanks

And even if they do, your truck doesn't have the hardware/software to use them.

take a picture of one of the valve stems with the cap off and ill be able to tell you if you have the new style rubber-stem TPMS sensors. If you have metal stems with an external nut claming it to the wheel, those are the older style TPMS sensors.

Yeah, thats basically what im thinking, since i called my local dealership and the guy in Service said the same thin. I am thinking im gona take them to a shop and let them separate to see if they got the sensors and if so, since my truck aint equipped for that, try to offer them for sale. the dude at the dealership mentioned each sensor is like 70 to 80 bucks new!!! Im not trying to make a profit but if i can help someone out and end up with beer money, then thats like a "win win" situation! Thanks for the info. Did i post in the right category? If you TAKE A PICTURE and post it I CAN TELL you if they are TPMS sensors.

 

Are your valve stems metal or plastic? (and if they're plastic with chrome covers, they're still plastic).

Well, "Technically" i would have to say they are "rubber" not plastic or metal. i can say the "caps" are plastic and not metal. I'll have to appologize since Im not too familiar with instant info. i normally log on about twice a day. I believe my "title" is still "NEWBIE", so I'll Bow Down in YOUR Vast and Great Knowledge. No need to be a smart ass. I wasn't. I posted for you saying that if you take a picture i can help you, sir. And then a few posts later you say "yea i dont think anyone can tell by looking at them so im going to bring it to the dealer to have them break down the tires".

 

Sorry for offering help and saving you the trouble of breaking down your tires I didn't know that you had to be experience in Thread and Forums or have Vast and Great Knowledge to know to read.

Sorry for the smart assnes i missunderstood your all caps wording. i am new to this so i dont know if i am replying in order or even if im replying to everyone(which is how i skipped your reply) again thanks for the info. and one of your pics actually does look like whats on the newer wheel that i have. i was basiclly trying to see if i was going to need to remove them since my truck doesnt have the monitoring system. if i skipped your thread originally, it wasnt on purpose. ultimately, if some one else can make use of them, then that would be great. Your comment on knowing how to read is correct. Knowing how to reply seems to be where your level of knowledge seems to be greater than mine. but it was not me that said what you quoted me saying. thanks again and i am eventully wanting to get a 4 door truck much like yours, Peace...

Understandable. One thing that sucks about typing is that you can not hear the 'tone' of the writer... i was just using caps to try to get your attention to the post because it seemed like you skimmed over my last post.

 

With that said, I may see the disconnect here... You probably get an E-mail saying "NEW REPLY TO TOPIC...". And you therefore may have clicked on it and scrolled down to the last post made and thereby missed the posts inbetween?

 

There are no "rules" for how to reply or a special order, i honestly dont care. I just couldn't understand how you would totally bypass someone who was trying to help you; but now i can, if you didnt see the post in the first place.

 

In any event, welcome to the board- lots of great info can be found here that will ultimately save you time & money in the future
