2008 Was A Bad Year...

Well, it wasn't all bad but most of it sucked. I am no longer living in Georgia but am now a North Carolina resident (out in Raleigh). After all that crap happened with my truck, then the house we were having built, I then get told something no one wants to hear but a lot of people are hearing it..."The company is not doing very well so..." You guys get the rest of the story.

 

Yep, had to pack up our stuff, pay $6K, (yes, $6,000.00) to break our apartment lease , then move all of our stuff into storage.

 

The good thing is that my in-laws live in NC and they wanted us to come stay with them because we haven't seen them much and my father-in-law has cancer and we really don't know how much longer he will be around. So we stayed with them about a week and I got a job in the Raleigh, NC area . I acutally like this job a lot more than my last job and I hope to stay here at this one a long time. I can't believe all the crap we have been through since I retired from the military . It hasn't even been two years yet and it feels like I have been a retiree forever .

 

Well, the good thing is that I love Raleigh and my new job. The company I work for is growing faster than I can believe and my wife and I are now settling into a routine here. I am FINALLY back online again and it feels great to be connected again.

 

I am glad for one thing after going through all the crap I went through in Georiga...at least we didn't get that F*&%^ING house . WOW I am so glad about that! Imagine me trying to pay for a new house with no job, no way .

 

Well guys I'm glad to be back and hopefully in a solid location now. I have met a few new friends who are in the IT recruiting business and they say Raleigh is going good through this economic situation so that makes me feel a little better.

 

The MAN UPSTAIRS has been watching over us for sure or I would still be in Georgia with no job and a house that would probably have a forclosure sign in the front yard.

That's great that things are turning around for you guys. Everything ends up evening out in the end, so it was only a matter of time. I hope the best for your father in-law, hopefully he can pull through.

Thanks Dan. It's good that we can be close to him so my wife can spend as much time as she can with him.

 

Now hopefully I can begin some new projects on the truck. I still haven't washed it since we left Georgia!

 

Oh yeah, there are tons of mountain bike trails here and I plan to visit them all!!!!

Jerk. My goal for this 'season', is to just ride an insane amount, and get back into shape. I actually just got a used road bike, it's an older (late 90s/early 2000s) Trek frame, with Mavic Cosmic wheels from the same era, but the whole drivetrain is virtually brand new, and full Ultegra (less than 3-4 years old). The chainrings are the most worn part on the bike, and they look like they have well less than 1000 miles on them.

 

Rode a little bit yesterday, and it was the first time out since my knee surgery in July. Holy crap, I have never been this out of shape in my entire life. A hill that I used to be able to just power over on my mountain bike made my legs feel like rubber, and lightheaded. I think I was dehydrated too, so that didn't help, but still.

 

I don't know what the hell I'm rambling about, I'm just putting off finishing this essay that's due in 2 hours.

Yep, 08 was a year of ups and downs here as well with losing my dad then getting engaged. You just have to do the best you can, keep family close, and be thankful for each day and those around you.

Welcome back Rob. I wondered what happened to you. Thing's do happen for a reason. They may not be what you want at the time, but in the long run, every thing work's out. '08 wasn't a very good year for me either, financial wise. I'm still trying to figure out how the wife and I managed to get by. Congrat's on the new job, and I hope all will be ok for you and your family.
