Need Some Help On New Truck Purchase

hey guys, looking at possibly pickin up a 2004 silverado crew cab with 19000 miles. They are askin 18000 for it but hoping to work them down on the price a little bit. What im wondering is if there is a better year between 04-06 that stands out from the rest or are they pretty close to the same? thanks in advance .. Mat

I'd say they'd all be pretty much the same in general. It comes down to the individual truck. How it's been treated, how it's been maintained, what options it has, its mileage.

I would suggest taking a look on AutoTrader for similar trucks in your area to see what they are going for in price. $18K is a little pricey for a 5 year old truck even with the low miles.

+1! But I know dealers think differently than somenone that actually has to "tote the note".

After having a friend check the auctions, that isn't a bad price. One with 36k miles sold for $16k.

Hey Mat!

I just paid $22,477.25 for my truck out the door. It has just about every option except a DVD entrainment system and NAV. It had 18K on it and looked (and smelled) brand new inside and out. Blue Book on it was $23,500.

The only thing that stands out too me is the front clip. The hood and grille (IMHO) look far superior on the '06 trucks. In fact, I would not settle for an '05 because of that. I had to have an '06 or '07 classic.

Other than that, they are pretty much the same.

Another thing that stands out with the GMT-800s is the fact that they are still reasonable sized trucks. Due to Ford's need incessant need to jumbo-size "1/2" ton trucks, you cannot find a normal sized truck anymore. Just look at my 4X4, Z71 Silverado next to an average F-150:

...and if you notice, the bumpers are virtually the same height.

Edit: I thought the Crew Cab was introduced for 2005?????? Or is it not a 1500?
