Security Issues

I've tried to search for fixes to problems like mine and can't quite seem to find what I am looking for. My '99 silv. with 5.3 has an intermittent problem of starting and dying a few secs. later. I know this is a security problem and I know that by replacing my ignition module it will probably work just fine. My question is: can I override the security system with resistors in a passlock system just like you do with a passkey system????? (I installed a remote start in a '97 Monte Carlo with the resistor pill in the key...that was easy enough.) I've read where you can clip the yellow wire on the key cylinder, measure resistance, match that resistance between the yellow and black wire and that will override your security system. Will this fix work in my situation? Any input is appreciated. I just hope i can find a cheap way to fix this problem. I dont really have $300 to spend on an ignition module to fix it the right way. Maybe some of you have done things like this before. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried the relearn procedure?

PROCEDURE:

1.Insert key, attempt to start the vehicle and leave the key in the ON position.

In some vehicles, the Battery and Security light will blink for several seconds, and then shut off. Then the Security light will then remain ON. Leave the ignition ON until the Security light goes OFF. This will take more than 5 mins.

2.When the Security light goes OFF, turn the ignition to the OFF position.

Leave ignition OFF for 20 Seconds.

3.Attempt to start the vehicle again and leave the key in the ON position.

In some vehicles, the Battery and Security light will blink for several seconds, and then shut off. Then the Security light will then remain ON. Leave the ignition ON until the Security light goes OFF. This will take more than 5 mins.

4.Turn the ignition to the OFF position for 20 Seconds.

5.Attempt to start the vehicle again and leave the key in the ON position.

In some vehicles, the Battery and Security light will blink for several seconds, and then shut off. Then the Security light will then remain ON. Leave the ignition ON until the Security light goes OFF. This will take more than 5 mins.

6.Once this entire procedure has been completed (three times) your vehicle will start on the fourth attempt.

You don't mention if you have a remote start on the truck, if you don't than just disregard, hopefully relearn posted above solves your problem.

I had a remote start installed some time ago, had same start problem, wasn't using the remote start function either, i was using the key to start, just last week, I noticed the pin-switch for the hood was rusty, sprayed with wd40, and truck started right up, must have shorted out or not making good connection, been fine so far, i think that pin-switch is a safety switch in case your working on engine it disables the remote start function, thought i'd share just in case.

No remote start on it. Ill try the relearn procedure once, but if its so intermittent I'm not sure if relearning the key will do the trick. Can't hurt though..thanks for the advice.

Still wondering if anyone knows about the bypass procedure. I'm really interested in figuring this out for the future IF i do put in a remote start.

thanks, Kevin
