I was looking at getting the GM remote start installed on my truck. I called the dealer to check labor and they said they can't install it on my truck because when they put my vin in it didn't come up. I thought all that was required was "AP8" which is listed on the RPO sticker in the glove compartment. I thought maybe the dealer just didn't know what they were talking about so I called two other dealers including the one three hours away where I bought the truck and they told both told me the same thing. What else is required as to why I can't get it or are the dealers in this area just incompetent?

I have a Viper system by DEI on my truck because of the circus I ran into trying to get options added to my truck. I simply wanted keyless entry added since my truck had power everythng but didn't have the keyless entry option. After several lengthy dealershp tries, I went the DEI way. I don't use the remote start function and opted for no siren (hate those things) but the system works great.

Something don't sound right....Post me the last eight digits of your VIN,I'll check and see.

Rich, you remember all of the trouble I went through trying to just add keyless entry? 3 dealers and a bunch of wasted time later, I gave up!

You don't have keyless entry Jim??? Man, I can't remember the last time I stuck a key in a keyhole...(story of my life. :lol: ). :dunno:

Yeah I've been spoiled for many years too.

 

Of course it does now. :lol:

 

When I needed a truck, there wasn't much to choose from in RCSB configuration. I had my Titan sold and didn't have the luxury of ordering. I was lucky just to find a RED RCSB V8/AT/with all power accessories anywhere! Although it had power locks it didn't have keyless. (brilliant move there Mr Whoever ordered it)

I agree with Zembonez, you will be much better off going with an aftermarket setup. You can get a good alarm/remote start system for aboud $300 installed. The range will definetely be better than the stock system.

I'm mainly going with the GM one just because I don't want to mess with the electrical system on the truck. I had the GM remote start on my last vehicle and really liked it.

Matt,I don't know what the issue is,But according to the VIN that you PM'd me your truck does have "AP8",so they can add the remote starter system very easily.

We just did a truck on Friday at the dealership,The kit lists for $195.00. It includes is two new transmitters and a security code that the tech. needs when he calls GM to get the programming software needed to reprogram the BCM.

So I went down to the dealership and talked to a woman at the parts counter who just hopped on the computer, looked up the part number for the remote start kit, and then verified I had the AP8 option. Didn't even need the build sheet Rich gave me. Too bad I didn't talk to her when I called them last Friday. Talk to three men over the phone at three different dealerships and they all say I can't do it, talk to one woman at the first dealership I called Friday and she doesn't see the problem. Beginning to wonder if they were just too lazy to look it up. Thanks again Rich for your help.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
