Moto Metal 951's On Silverado 1500?

I was trying to decide on wheels for my truck. It is a 2007 New Body Style Silverado 1500. After weeks of looking at wheels I chose the Moto metal 951 17x9. I called a dealer and he said that those wheels do not fit the Silverado. They are made for trucks with a lift. Is this right? How can wheel width matter with truck height?

 

The wheels are -12mm offset. I'm not quite sure what this means. Can someone help me out?

I've seen plenty of pics of GMT900 trucks with the 951's. I have 17x9 Helo's on my truck and don't have a problem so it must be in the BS/offset that is causing problems.

Wheel Offset

 

It is a large offset difference from the -12 of the 951's to the +29 of stock. The wheels and tires will stick out further which probably won't give enough tire clearance with the fenders for suspension travel.

Dealer is right. Those wheels will stick WAAAY out and make even stock sized tires rub. You need +25mm offset on a 9 inch wheel - not -12mm. BIG difference.

 

I also like the MOTO METAL designs, but make sure you buy the right offset or your custom wheels will look silly and cause rubbing problems... NOT GOOD!
