i got a rcsb 2001 5.3 i am goin to put a cam in it but im not sure what is the best for it someone told me the LS6 cam was a pretty good power gain

I ran an 02 LS6 cam in my 02 Camaro SS 5.7L LS1. Due to its valve events its a topend cam designed for the light Z06 corvette. I had all the major bolt on mods CAI, catback longtubes, Tuned, etc... The cam only really comes on hard in the 4500+rpm range compared to the stock cam. There is very little gain below that rpm range. 10-12rwhp @ 10rwtq is what I am talking about. After 4500rpms its an animal but that is not what you need in a heavy truck. You want a torque biased cam with a strong midrange. I would recommned something in the 212/224 range .590lift on a 112+4 or 110+2. Comp XER or XFI lobes are good for this. Don't forget to address your stall converter when adding a larger cam.

ok so the ls6 want help me at the track that much I know they make a hot cam kit for the Ls1 cars it is a 219/228 525/525 and as for the converter im getting a trail blazer converter it should stall up to around 2500

The Hotcam is a decent cam and makes respectable power. I do believe there are better grinds out there with better valve events and better driveability and tip in throttle charachteristics. For that size stall converter look at the Thunder Racing 220 or 224. Both are proven cams that make great power. Anything larger than stock is really going to need a set of longtubes and tuning for max power potential.
