Cam Swapping A 5.3 With Afm

Recommended Posts

I posted this topic in the fuel economy section and havent had much luck, I have a 07 gmt-900 with a 5.3 flex motor and want to cam swap, can I run a hot cam, or does anyone know who makes cams for these motors. I know a few guys that do custom cams but they dont have experience with anything with active fuel. I was going to just do a rocker swap but I would rather stuff something that will lope a little in there if I can, any info would be great thanks

Contact a cam company. Go to the sources that have done the engineering and testing to figure this stuff out. :smoker:

Edit: In another thread I noticed nova66 lists Bullet, Comp and Lunati as contacts

I have done a little more research on this. I would recommend going over to performancetrucks.net and asking those guys. I know that there are not many companies that are making AFM compatible cams yet. I have only heard of one and sorry I don't remember who, but I just read an article within the last couple months in one of my hot rod (either car craft, popular hotrodding, or hotrod) saying there is a company that is getting ready to release a cam that is compatible with AFM.

As of right now, if you want a cam you need to turn off AFM. Then you have a large selection of cams.

There is soooo much more involved then just lift in a AFM cam. All the cam timing events come into play. With the AFM lifter issues that have been seen, I personally would be scared to put too much more cam in my truck without changing the lifters out.

Like I said earlier, go to http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/

There are a bunch of cam threads.
