Computer Tune For A V6

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello I have a 2008 Silverado regular cab short bed ½ ton with V6 and automatic, the engine is all stock the truck has 3.42 gears and 275/55R20 Bridgestone alenza tires, (dealer installed) the truck has 1500 miles on it. I’m not sure if it is the big tires, lack of rear gear, or small motor (or all of that) but it does not have much power. I want to get a tune but, will a rear gear change first help me out more? I have lowered the truck 3" in the back and I do not tow or haul anything with the truck.

Thanks for the help

Robert

well since you only have a v6, i would recommend getting the rear gears switched to 4:10's if you want more power..

if it is a 2wd its not really that much, $500, a 4wd, around $1100

a tune will be cheaper but i don't not know much about those..

also being a V6, you might want to do both, to try and get some of that v8 power

His V6 already has more power than your V8 :D

Alright I'm done thread jacking... lets try and help this guy out!

Good point...I see Jenna lurking, maybe she will chime in.

Jenna, does Justin tune the new V6's?

I'm thinking just try the tune. My 07 4.3 rcsb 4x4 has plenty of power but it's a stick shift. Maybe with the auto that annoying torque management is the real culprit. It bugs the heck out of guys with V8 auto's, assuming equal amounts of TM I would imagine it could be excruciating with the V6.

On the bright side that 4.3 will last forever.

You're not gonna get a tune on that. I have an 09 and just got an email from Justin.

He can't tune the engine at all. He can tune the transmission but that's it.

"The transmission can still be adjusted, which can improve mileage some (.5-1mpg city in some cases)."
