Trans Cooler Fittings

Hey all-

About to start the transmission service on my 2004 GMC 2500HD 6.0L/4L80E, during which I am planning on swapping out the factory cooler for a B&M plate cooler. Running through things to make sure I have everything, and about to go buy some fittings - but am wondering if I need any special tool(s) to remove the hard lines from the factory cooler? Anybody know if these are snap lines or just NPT?

They are jiffy tite. You will need special adapters. I have adapters that fit coolers with 22mm thread.

Pulled the grill off to take a closer look.

 

Am putting a spin on filter inline also, so it looks like I am going to cut the hardlines near the core support, and run hose to the new cooler, then from the cooler to the remote filter mount, and then back to the hardline return. Can I just use the compression fittings I find at Home Depot or Lowe's? Should I use a flare instead?

I guess I'm going to try the plumbing fittings next week when I get back from camping - probably try flare first. I'll be sure and take a bunch of pics. Doing a pan swap, cooler replacement, adding the filter and putting in what should be 19-20 qts of Amsoil ATF.
