Need Opinions On Exhaust System I Found

been asking a lot lately about different systems and almost picked up a Magnaflow cat back system for $410 last week. Decided the other day just to install a magnaflow muffler in place of stock and keep stock pipes and save the $$ and use it toward a Blackbear tune. Well I ordered the muffler from Summit this afternoon and was heading in to pay for my order and pick up the muffler. Instead of just going to the cashier I walked to the back where the sale items are and found something I wanted a little more.

Instead of the Magnaflow muffler I picked up an entire Summit cat-back dual exhaust system (demo kit) with the turbo muffler and all hardware except the chrome tips for the whopping price of $30. :D:D I realize that the Magnaflow would be stainless and the kit I got will rust in 5 years or less as it's only aluminized pipe, but HEY, $30!!! I'll probably carefully cut the old system of and save it for some later date so I can re-install after the duals rust out.

Doing the happy dance. Just hope the new exhaust doesn't drone on in the cab while I'm on the highway.

Sounds like a great deal to me.. even if you get lucky to get 5 years... Mine only lasted 2-1/2 years for Flowmaster cat back. Wonder why it was so cheap. Wonder if the drone is bad.

Post up a sound clip.

Well Flowmaster gives a 5 year warranty, even agaist rust through so I figured 5 years for an aluminized system. I may coat it with some high temp paint for a little added protection.

As Summit updates displays in their retail store they take down parts and box up what they have. they also sell returns where the part may be all greasy but new, or even returns where the customer screwed up or the salesman gave the customer the wrong part and people didn't notice until they tried to assemble. Normally they sell the stuff for at least 30% off and in some cases I have seen 50% off. In my case the system was a display model where they apparently put one up of a newer model. The sticker said 99-03 but checking the book revealed that the system was good through 05. Everything is new in the box and it came with all the hardware minus the tips. I think because new tips would run $60+ for replacements they marked the box at $30 figuring that $60+ for tips would be a $100 sale on a $160 system.

I just kept staring at the price sticker and checking over the part number and the box contents wondering how I got so damn lucky. In the end I bought a 4' section of pipe that I will make my own tips with and it cost me all of $10. I can't have the tips stick out past the bumper anyway since the rear of the truck butts up against my garage wall so I can get the garage door closed.

See that! Things have a way of working themselves out... Glad you found something... Good Luck!

Do you have it on yet?

LOL, no. it's freaking snowing here and I just got back to work. i work mybe 20 minutes away from Summit and went there for my lunch hour. Going to try like hell to get it done this weekend though.

Jeff, you would have laughed if you had seen me dragging the box through the ropes to get to a CS tech just to double check the price and change my original order. I wasn't about to question a $30 tag on a new system. :D

Sounds awesome! And heck,.. You can install the exhaust in the snow... Just put down a piece of carpet to lay on

did you get the dual exhaust kit with 2.25" pipes or 3" pipes? I thought about getting the summit kit and buying a different muffler too. but, the 2.25" pipes seemed a bit to small and the 3" pipes seemed a bit to big.

but for $30 you can't beat that. even if you have to buy a $100 muffler and $100 tips, you're still $200 ahead of any other cat back dual exhaust set-up!! nice find! and post clips when it's all done

Is it on yet? WTF?

LOL, not yet. I'm taking the time to coat the parts with some VHT ceramic header paint. Figure that maybe I can keep from rusting through for a little longer with some preventative maintenance. (plus it looks cooler in flat black.)

The pipes are 2 1/4" but since there are two I would assume they flow just as goos as the factory setup, if not much better. The area of a 3" pipe is 4.71 square inches. The area of a 2 1/4" pipe is 3.53 or a total of 7.065 between the two. I would assume that the two 2 1/4 pipes will flow just fine.

    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
