AllBlkdOut07 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I was gloating about how much more powerful the truck felt after my tune, and the other night after I installed my AEM intake it ran just as good if not better albeit just around town. I had a chance to fill the tank yesterday with 93 Octane gas (Since when I had the tune I had half tank of 87 octane and those guys topped it off with 93 octane). So this is the first time I actually have mostly 93 Octane in the truck. Opened it up on the hwy this morning to get around traffic and I noticed the rest of the way it sounds much different, making almost a fluttering (drone) sound on acceleration. I thought I had less power, so to make sure I removed the + battery terminal and MAF sensor and let it sit for 10 min, then reconnect it and the MAF sensor. Around town It still sounded the same. Just took it onto the hwy, and it's still making the weird fluttering sound, but the power is def not lacking, once I hit second the truck pulled hard. So, I'm dumbfounded as to why it feels, sounds so different now all of a sudden. Does the intake really make that much of a different sound? Would adding on the AEM AFTR the tune really affect things like this? The guy who did the tune said it would make a big difference. I mean I think I kinda like the way it sounds, it just sounds sort of like that fluttering/drone sound. Anyone who has experienced the same thing or knows what I'm taking about please share. I am trying to meet up with the guy who tuned my truck early Sat morning to have him look things over again.
mikystyle Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I added my k&n intake before I added my exhaust and the noise difference was incredably noticeable. I would say what your hearing is normal and all from the intake. My exhaust note was louder and deaper and you can actually hear the air being pulled from the intake. As far as your tune goes, when you had the tune done was it done with the intake in mind or stock? If not I would definately have him retune it for the intake so youll be taking full advantage of the power from the intake. Oh and as far as octane making that much of difference, my tune is for 93+ and Ive had to run 91 in it a couple of times and its definately noticeable.
AllBlkdOut07 Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 Ok, that's what I was hoping. Yes, the tune was done without the intake, and after I mentioned I had an intake sitting home waiting to be installed the guy was like..d'oh, I wish you had it on the truck beforehand. I'm like why, how much difference could it make? He replied..a lot actually. I didn't believe him, everyone knows intakes don;t do much but add good looks to an engine bay..lol So I would say the exhaust tone is defiintely much throatier sicne the AEM intake and full tank of 93 octane, and the engine sounds quieter which is weird IMO. But I asked my g/f when I picked her up tonight if the truck felt slower and I accelerated WOT in second, she replied..um no, are you serious?
Matt_ Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 But I asked my g/f when I picked her up tonight if the truck felt slower and I accelerated WOT in second, she replied..um no, are you serious? You should have her walk next to the truck as you're accelerating at WOT to see if she hears anything differently outside... just tell her not to wear heals since she maaaaaay have to up her pace to a slight jog
AllBlkdOut07 Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 Funny Matt, making up for your short comings (or should I say puny Body Lifted truck) by poking fun at my trucks smaller transplant.
