Nj Line-x Scratched My Truck!

I took my truck to NJ Line-X on Friday to have the bed Line-Xed. My truck is 7 mos. old and only has 4,000 miles on it. I made an appointment and was asked to be there at 8:00 am when they opened. I got there about 7:55 and parked in the first parking space in front of the building (no space to my left, open space to the right and then another truck). The owner showed up a minute later and parked about eight spaces to the right by the door to his business. After he unlocked the door to his establishment, I went in where he proceeded with taking my information for the job. While at the front counter, a rusted, bondo'd, primered and line-x'd '66 el camino pulls up right next to my truck. The parking lot was still otherwise empty except for my truck another customers truck (third space) and the owner's truck. The individual driving the el camino came into the building as he was an empoyee of NJ Line-x. The owner looks at him and says "have a rough night?". He replies something in the affirmative that I don't exactly recall. The owner takes my keys goes into the shop are and go out by my truck. Sure enough the employee in the el camino parked about two feet from my truck and put his door into the passenger door side molding on my truck leaving about an inch long crack or scratch that is down the primer or plastic (the scratch is white in color). I informed the owner. He was somewhat unapologetic. He said it wasn't him. It wasn't. It was his employee on the grounds of his business. I still hold him responsible. After much discussion with the owner I proceeded to let them do the line-x job, which they did a good job.

While they had my truck in their shop, they tried to compound the affected area, but the scratch is there. Needs to be repainted or touched up. The price quoted for the job seemed high compared to other line-x jobs that people have gotten around the country, but there's not a alot of line-x franchises around so I was willing to pay the price quoted to me (648 + NJ sales tax for line-X and black xtra). When I saw that i wasn't going to be able to remove the blemish with an array of magical compounds, polishes, etc., I inquired about whether he would adjust the price for the service at this point, as I'm going to have to have the scratch repaired somewhere, someway. He replied, no the price is what it is. I'll post a picture as soon as I'm able.

Any other line-x dealers or shop owners want to comment and what the proper way to handle this would have been?

Sorry but its the drivers fault, not the shop owner. He the guy to go after for $. Anytime you park your vehicle anywhere you run the risk of some other uncaring sob doing damage to your vehicle.

You are stuck filling a claim with your insurance IMO or taking him to court and you have no proof that he did anything although you are 100% certain is was him. If the driver will not admit responsibility then you are on your own. If you take him to court the fact they tried to repair it would be considered evidence of his guilt, IMO.

It's high time we stop blaming whoever we think has the money. The blame here belongs SQUARELY on the guy that did the deed. I don't care if he was an employee of the Pope, he and he alone is the place you need to go for restitution.

Yes, Route 22, Bridgewater, NJ.

That's where I got my rockers sprayed, and where Umberto (AllBlkdOut07) got all his stuff sprayed, and I thought they were fine (I think he had a pretty good experience too?).

I agree though, it's the driver's fault, not the owner. I would try to have the owner "discuss" with the employee how to act when on the property, and with customer's stuff (if he doesn't, do it yourself).

The driver should man up and pay. You should ask him for his insurance data. I have to say however you have an employee on company property, the store owner is not without responsibility for the actions of his employee.

As already said before it's the driver's fault. get some estimates NOW and submit the bill to the guy ASAP. Do it now while the guy still works there. If he won't pay then go after his insurance company and or small claims.

Even though I had generally good experiences there, the guy is EASILY the most expensive around. Not sure if it's the area, or just him in general. If you have anything other than a bed to do (custom stuff like a gg or rocker panels) expect to pay a premium as well, as he wouldn't quote me ahead of time, but based pricing on 'clicks' used to spray my gg (which I thought was astronmical) and turned out to be way more than I anticipated. Plus they seem to have issues getting an even texture and/or shine on some surfaces with the LineX and Xtra.

Theres a Line-X shop on Route 9 South in Sayreville(could be technically South Amboy). Never been in there, but just another place to do price comparo if you need.
