Extended Warranty

Just a little post for those that have that idea if it's smart to extend the original warranty or not, well i just took my truck which now has over 37k into the dealer Friday to get a steering problem fixed.

Int. Steering shaft replaced

Steering gear box replaced

Bearing in the steering column replaced

Drive shaft output seal

All tranny oil cooler lines

Alignment

Got to hand it to my dealer i went in with a tsb for the steering gear with a binding problem and they took care of my truck pretty good finding and fixing many other issues i had no idea about. My only concern is that would of cost me most likely 2 grand to have all of that done if it was not for the ext. warranty i purchased. Moral of the story is buy one, they are worth every penny imo! Hell i thought my shocks were wearing out but the truck almost drives like the day i bought it now with those parts replaced, very happy with the work done on replacing the worn out parts but yet concerned about having to have them done at only 37k on the odometer.

I only paid like $600+ top extend my 2007 to march 2013 full coverage 0 deductable 70000 miles limit

I don't drive far , but I do tow my boat and just one transmission failure will more then pay for that.

question is I have GMPP will it still be worth anything after GM goes belly up

That's been my concern as well... who knows what will happen; I'm hoping the GMPP will also be covered by the government like they say they'll do with factory warranties.

GMPP is owned and backed by the insurance division of GMAC, which is independent from GM itself. GMPP is technically an INSURANCE policy...not an extended warranty.

I know we all call it an extended warranty, myself included. :withstupid::P

That said...I reckon I am the sucker that someone else said we all were, if we bought an extended warranty.

I have it on the Cadillac...all the way to 105,000 miles It has way too many expensive things that could go wrong with it NOT to have a warranty in place to fix them.

It is not an automobile, but the extended warranty on my HDTV just paid off like a slot machine. (reference to another post about going to las vegas)

With only 4 months to go before the extended warranty on it ran out...I am having my 60 inch, $5,000, Sony HDTV replaced because they worked on it three times and then it messed up again.

Just got home from Best Buy after picking out the new one.

It will be delivered next Tuesday.

Extended warranties are carefully calculated to make money for the seller. Are you a gambler? Think you can go to Vegas and make it pay? Then buy a warranty. Sucker.

Well I have had a couple of them pay off. It depends too on how much you pay for it. I feel good about what I got. The price the dealer gets, it won't take much going wrong to break even or be ahead.
