Making Stock Muffler Louder (free Mod)

Hey,

So I have a stock 01' Sierra with a 4.8, I wanna make the thing louder but I don't really wanna spend the money to get a flowmaster or anything right now (college this fall). I searched around here and one guy suggested just cutting off the stock pipe from the exit up to the muffler. Keeping the stock muffler on and having it exit right there. Has anyone done this and if so how much louder does it really make it? Also would I have to put a downturn right after the muffler or could I just leave it coming straight out?

If you did that, definitely use a turn down. IMO, just save your money and do it the right way.

Ya thats the thing I used to have a monte carlo with a flowmaster 40 and I loved the way that sounded. I figured at worst I could try cutting the pipe on my truck off and then if it doesn't do anything for the sound go ahead and put a super 40 on.
