Ratteling Noise

For years I've had a ratteling noise coming from my dash and could never pinpoint it until now. Over the winter the noise became alot more irritating and louder, usually started at 50 mph and go to 80 mph. Turns out it was the instrument panale, which GM has a recall for. So I had the dealer reaplce the $300 peice for no cost, and asked exactly what peice in the instrument panel causes the rattle and he told me that it was something with one of the guages and comes loose, or falls off. He also said with my truck that there is another rattle that is caused by the throttle cable on the firewall by the throttle cable.

 

Well after the new instument panel was installed and reprogrammed with my current mileage, the loud rattle noise was no longer there when I git 50 mph. But I did notice a slight rattle noise coming from dash again when I hit 60 mph. It had the same sound as before, but alot less quiet. It must be the throttle cable causing this like the tech said.

 

GM sent me a motice regarding recall of instrument panel last year. If your vehicle is under 70,000 miles GM will replace it for no cost. I also found out that GM has extended it over 80,000 now, they will cover the cost of the instrument panel, but you would have to pay for the labor. They said it takes about an hour or so to do the install and reprogramming. Also found out that if your instrument panel ever blows out, that the LED bulbs that are in it cannot be replaced becuase they are soildered in. The fix is having to shell out $300 for a new instrument panel, which the dealer would have to do, because they are the only ones that have the software to input your correct mileage, or so I was told.
