Transmission Misshifting

Hi Mr. Tech

This is the problem breakdown:

Vehicle: Chevrolet Equinox

Year: 2005

Trim: LS AWD

Problem: Transmission shifting problem

The vehicle has around 120k miles. The Transmission was rebuilt about 20k miles ago. Before it was rebuilt, I began to have a problem with the transmission.

It's hard to explain, but i'll try.

Imagine that you have your vehicle on DRIVE, and when your tranny is on its way to shift from 2nd to 3rd, you put your tranny on NEUTRO, accelerate it to about 3500 rpm, and then put it on DRIVE at that moment. That is what I am experiencing when shifting up.

When shifting down, the problem is from 2nd to 1st. It makes a really loud noise, like a 1 ton steel ball falling to the ground, and the vehicle shakes like hell.

Sometimes, when it does the misshifting thing from 2nd to 3rd, the check engine light gets on.

When this happens, the vehicle has maybe a one-second delay to get on a shift from PARKING (PARKING to DRIVE or REVERSE).

If I turn off and on the vehicle again, the problem goes away for about 2-3 shift cycles, and then it starts again.

I took it to a technician (not GM technician, because it has no warranty left), and he said that i had to run OBDII with that Check Engine Light on, because the problem was with a transmission sensor. Her had no idea which sensor.

Any thoughts ? I already spent a lot rebuilding the transmission ($1600) to be still having this problem.

Any help will be really appreciated.
