Cam Swap Question

While getting my Black Bear performance tune last Sunday I asked Justin for other ways I could improve my engines overall performance. One of the things he suggested was a cam swap and he recommended two possible choices from CompCams. The two he recommended were CC p/n's- 54-450-11 and 54-451-11. When I looked these cams up on the CC website they indicate these cams are for "Off-Road use only", so this made me wonder if my truck would still pass the NYS emission test during my yearly inspection. Has anyone used either of these two cams in a 5.3L V8? If so, how noticeable were the performance improvements and was there any issue passing an emission inspection? Also, how did this cam swap effect fuel economy? Thanks.

I guess no one here has done a cam swap on there 5.3L V8 yet, so I asked Justin from BB Performance tune this same question. He said the "Off-Road use only statement" was mainly for CA residents and that if I did this cam swap that I would not have any problem passing an emissions inspection. He went on to say that the fuel economy would be slightly better for the 450 cam, but he did not have any representative fuel economy data for the 451 cam. For my 5.3L L33 engine he recommended the 451 over the 450 cam.

 

Anyone know where I can find the specs on the stock L33 cam that came with my engine?

I have the 54-450-11 on my 5.3L, probably why he suggested it to you, I am really happy with it!

Actually Justin was recommending the 54-451-11 over the 54-450-11 for my 5.3L L33 engine, but I have not really decided yet. How would you describe the performance differences before and after the cam swap? Thanks.
