Duramax Slight Surging At Partial Throttle

Howdy y'all,

Tried searching this problem with little results, other than they all do it.

I have an 05 Sierra 3500 single wheel with the duramax. Lately I've noticed the idle surging very slightly, either idling or at very little throttle. I tried changing the fuel filter with no results. It comes and goes as well. I read something about a bad TPV but I don't know what that is. Also, adjusting the fuel pressure was mentioned. I went for a four hundred mile road trip and it seemed to go away for about a week, but now it's back again.

Is this something normal? If it never did it before and now it does, that would be not normal to me.

It's barely enough to make the tach move but I can feel it.

BTW it has about 80,000 miles on it now.

Any thoughts, suggestions would be much appreciated.

PS. I didn't know Carl Edwards could fly, but he did at Talladega today. Wooohooo what a ride.

There is programming that fixes 30 things, including the tune related surge. Mine no longer has this problem.

How about dirty fuel injectors, try some fuel additive that will help clean the injectors for a few tanks of fuel and see if that happens to fix the problem, I know that it usually will help with gas engines.

That would be a low cost / low tech attempt to try and fix.

does your oil seem to smell like fuel? - then its one or more of the injectors possibly failing

Is your fuel good quality?

If these questions are all proven to be not to be the cause, then maybe fuel pump is starting to fail. if that is not it, then I would not know what else to check.

The more technical folks here will more than likely throw more ideas your way.
