Annoying Interior Rattle...driving Me Nuts! Anyone Else Have It?

There is an annoying rattle that is coming from the passenger side, rear corner of the cab, below the seat. I cannot figure out what is causing this noise. I tried both folding and unfolding the seats, putting something on the back seat for added weight to push the seats down. I made sure all the tools and the jack were secure, they were. I can't figure this out.

When I go over bumps and uneven roads the way in which it rattles sounds like a swimming pool diving board, if you can understand that. Like something is bouncing up and down really fast, that's why I thought it was the seat but that's not it, I think.

Let me know what input you all have. I am about to go to the dealer some time soon, we'll see though. Luckily, moderate volume from the radio shuts it out, but it's still not supposed to be there.

Check your cab mounts :) I've also read about something to do with the cab vent thats behind the rear seats causing the rattle? :) I'm reaching here.

I've noticed that going over bumps my back seat seems to make a rattle/thumping noise..... I figured it was just due to the design of the folding mechanism and haven't been able to figure out a resolution yet.

I also have a rattle in my head liner.... Sounds like the wire going to the overhead interior light isn't secured very well

And lastly, my driver side front body mount is making a creaking sound.... I have to find the tsb for that because I remember there being an insulator pad to resolve that issue.

You're not alone!!

I wonder if the '09 has the same "seat belt twist" issue? If your passenger side rear seat belt clasp isn't turned the right way, it rattles on the plastic of the cab and drives you insane! Many of us have been through this. You stop, get out, rotate the belt clasp 180 degrees, shut the door, and life is good.

Just a thought.

Good luck Nick, I went through this for about a week when mine was new. I wanted to light it on fire before I discovered this.

My thought exactly. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I cannot just let that go and it happens about anytime someone has been in the back seat.

Hmmm, I'm gonna try buckling the rear seatbelts today before I leave work to see if that quiets it down at all. I had a similar issue with my 05 but the rattle caused by the seatbelt was more of a plastic chatter.... My 08 rear seat sounds more like a heavy thud sound

I am getting that chatter...but it sounds as though whatever is causing it has a little more mass behind it than a seat belt.

I have the rattle in the rear too. I narrowed it down to an arm in the seat mechanism. Almost like the pin that the arm roates on isn't holding everything tight enough so the arm rattles back and forth. It drives me nuts. The only 'fix' that I have found was taking some foam from an arts and crafts store and glueing it on the side of the arm. Now when it bouces back and forth I don't here it near as much. After quieting that one down I now have a rattle behind the radio (its not anything to do with the radio. I've taped EVERYTHING up behind it and still makes the rattle) and under the driverside dash just above my knees while I'm driving. I eliminated one but gained two more. Maybe I should quit know before it becomes 4 rattles. :puke:

I have a rattle in the back on the driver's side. It's not the seat belt but I have not been able to find it yet. I also have one from behind the stereo. I will deal with that one until I put my system back in. The one in the back is really annoying though...post-60250-1241028528.gif

I'm glad I'm not alone... these rattles are driving me nutz. 08 SD here, rattle/clunk near the back right seat, got it, rattle when driver window is cracked, got it.... rattle behind driver side window pillar, got it... speaker rattles, got em.

Now that the weather is finally getting better time to go through this biatch with a fine tooth comb.

the dash rattle comes from the little pieces on the air vents you grab on to in order to move the air flow around. Check it out.....

That's what my mystery rattle/thump was too.
