Truck Smoking?

Recommended Posts

Any thoughts of why my truck is smoking? I figure it was cold because it cleared up towards the end of the video. And I run 93 octane all the time. The truck seems to be running fine.

Was that the first time that it was run after the muffler/tailpipe install?

If so, it was just the coating burning out of the pipes and muffler, if that was not the first run, then I would say valve seals.

What color was the smoke? Looked black to me. Id have to say its your valve stems, since you say its only at start up..

Using any oil?

Hard to tell by the video but it looks like fuel to me.

Smoke looks like it is black to me, i.e. fuel. If the motor was cold, it was probably just rich when you were revved it.

Maybe give nicorette a try.

Try running 87 for a while. I think you're running too high of Octane.

+1 on fuel. If it was valve guide seals, it would've been smoking quicker on start-up.

Can I ask a question? You guys think you can use to much octane? I only run 87, have for years, used to only run premium in my Fords. Thought I was doing the right thing, and then somebody told me I didn't need to run premium. Opinions anyone? I didn't want to highjack the thred but it looked like his issue was resolved, so sorry and send this thread where it belongs. Thanks in advance Jake.

Why not make your own thread? :driving:

Running higher octane than the engine is tuned for is a waste of money. It won't improve performance or mileage. Used to be higher octanes had more cleaning power - that is why they used ot be called "Super" or "premium". No longer. Buy whatever it is rated for or tuned for.

I am sure you can search for all kinds of threads on here.
