Anybody switch to this ?

I am changing all the fluids in my 05 Suburban and was going to flush out the Dexcool and go with G-05.

GO 5 is an excellent product but is used in Fords and some Chrysler products. To my knowledge, it has never been used in any GM vehicles. I would suggest you stick with Dexcool. It really is as good as it gets for our GM vehicles.

I also believe it to be an excellent product. I've used it before in my Jeep and my brothers. If you are out of warranty I don't see using it being a problem. I would flush all remaining Dexcool out though before refilling.

bobistheoilguy.com has an antifreeze forum with alot of info on different coolants..

Ryan,

I agree with what you said about the GO5 being an excellent product however I cannot agree with using it in a GM vehicle. 20 years ago there was one antifreeze for every vehicle but with today's technology I would not suggest using this product in anything other than vehicles that specifiy it. It likely would never damage anything at all but why risk it when Dexcool is also an excellent product and it was specifically developed by GM for GM vehicles?

Just my .02

Most of what I read on Bobstheoilguy.com seems to knock Dexcool.......talks about it gunking up a radiator....etc.

G-05 has a very low silicate added .......helps keep thing cleaner.

There have been many discussions over Dexcool but as long as it does not get mixed with other types of antifreeze it will not gunk up anything. The only other thing I have ever heard about Dexcool is if the vehicle is operated for an extended time with the coolant level very low, it can cause some issues with Dexcool.

I have personally seen 7 or 8 year old GM vehicles with well over 100K on the clock with the original coolant and although it may get darker in color, I have not seen it gel or "gunk up". My Yukon XL had about 40K on it and was about 4 years old when I flushed it and the coolant was nice and orange and looked almost as good as what I was pouring back in it.

As I said earlier, I am sure GO5 would not hurt a thing but I personally would not risk it.

:D Not one problem here on my farm truck. Its a '98 with way over 100K. She doesnt get treated like she should. The original Dexcool is still in here, though a dark brown, there is no gumming or corrosion visable.

Valvoline also makes there own Zerex/ Dexcool coolant. If they make 2 types, one for each brand, I'd go with what is specified for the make it was designed to be used for.

I'm with Trey....just flushed the coolant in my 02 for the first time and the old stuff looked just as good as the dexcool that went back in it. There are different formulations for a reason...stick to what GM recommends and you'll stay out of trouble.
