New Here And Have A Question

im new to this site hoping i could get some help. i just bought a 1984 GMC High Sierra 4x4 and i was told it has a 400 that was put in it. how can i tell if it is or not? i dont really know to much about these trucks yet. just wondering if anyone could help me out.

400 has an 8" harmonic balancer

 

350 is 6.75"

 

 

any other way of telling? cause the sticker under the hood from the factory says it a 5.0 which is a 305 or something isnt it?

Can't help you too much here, but welcome to the site!

 

You could check for a number on the block, but that can be difficult.

thanks ill prob. be on here a lot haha cause im always messing with it since the second i got it haha ( like 3 days ago )

Yes, the 5.0 is a 305.

You asked if you could tell if it was a 400, and this method will tell you if it is.

As for which engine it is exactly, besides a 400, you will need the engine block casting number.

As you are standing in front of your truck, the number will be on a raise pad on the LEFT front, at the firedeck (below the cylinder head)

 

You can Google the engine number to figure out what it is.
