With the recent news of GM filing for re-organization, has anyone heard if any models are going to be dropped or replaced?

Thank You

Hummer: Gone --- China

Saturn: Gone --- Buyer apparently idenitifed, not announced to my knowledge

SAAB: Gone --- don't know who

Pontiac: Gone --- killed

Opel: Gone (most likely Magna (Austria) or Fiat (Italy) )

Camaro SS: Indefinate hold

4.5l light-truck Diesel Powertrain for PUs: Indefinate Hold (BIG MISTAKE IMHO, but stricter Diesel emmissions standards probably played a big role)

Corvette (present models): Business as usual, new Corvette model: Indefinate hold

Caddy CTS-V: shaky. Non -V CTSs probably safe

Most so-called "performance" models (i.e. SS, like Cobalt SS, etc); most likely GONE.

Looks like they will focus on the core brands of Chevy, Buick, Caddy and GMC

My OPINION, based on nothing but supposition:

Large SUVs: Days numbered (Escalade, etc..)

Large Trucks: will undergo weight reduction in future, hopefully gain the 4.5l forced induction Diesel to make reasonable MPG

That's what I know, may not all be right.

Wow, if the large SUV market is gone, then I am up a creek, I use my Suburban for business purposes. What a shame that would be!

Camaro SS: Indefinate hold

You mean the Z28 & the convertible. They, along with the 2013 Silverado/Sierra, have been canceled until further notice.

Not that I don't believe you (well, I am a bit skeptical), but did GM officially say this? Or it is "insider info".

I usually am on top of things relating to the big three and cannot believe that something of that magnitude slipped under my radar.

Magna international is based out of Aurora Ontario. I do believe they have a deal to take a 55% stake in Opel with partner Sberbank (Russia). Maybe some of those Canadian GM dealers that got "dear john" letters will be selling Opels in the near future.

According to AutoNews.com, the Camaro Convertible is still slated for 2011. My guess is that it will be pushed back. But, this is what was reported a few days ago :

Camaro ragtop production starts in 2011

Automotive News

DETROIT -- The Chevrolet Camaro convertible will go into production in early 2011.

Despite some media reports, General Motors spokesman Terry Rhadigan said: "The convertible was never canceled. It was retimed. It will be the first quarter of 2011 for the start of production."

Rhadigan said the original plan was to introduce the convertible in early 2010. Camaro coupe production began in March.

"We always thought it would be one year after the coupe," he said. "Instead we are going two." Rhadigan said both V-6 and V-8 models will be offered.

They did not cancel the 2013 Trucks. They postponed the scheduled redesign indefinitely. I love how stories get twisted up, it's a like a bunch of little old ladies at their bridge club.

That...makes sense...and sounds vaguely familiar.

I took when he said "cancelled" to mean "on indefinite hold." So technically speaking if they put it on hold for one year the 2013 redesign was cancelled and replaced with 2014 redesign.

Anybody seen this commercial yet?

I just saw it yesterday during the Laker/Magic game.

If you stop the video at one minute you will see the four brands that are left.

Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac.

The only thing I am real sorry to see go is the pontiac G8 GT...

buick? they dropped saturn and pontiac but kept buick?

buick should have been dead long ago, around when plymouth was killed. the buick fans are close enough to alzheimer's they would'nt know the difference.

Buicks are all the rage in China---considered a status symbol there. They are considered a "quint-essential" vehicle there, and the market penetration of the buick there is very high. The pontential sales numbers in CHina is also staggering. May have ahd something to do with that decision.

My wife just bought an Enclave, and she doesn't have alzheimer's, thank you. BTW, she loves it, it's a heck of a vehicle, fun to drive, good performance, and the interior is like a biz-jet. Solid build and interior quality. No warranty claim thus far (8 months). Overall, an EXCELLENT vehicle.

Buick has been moving toward dropping the stigma you refer to for some time, and if the enclave is any indication, they are well on their way. Given the recent sales slump, the last numbers I remeber, is that the enclave is at PLUS 27% in sales numbers over this time last year---quite telling.

With the G8 hitting the skids, I wouldn't be too shocked if we see a new rebadged Buick GS popping up here soon......just a guess.

They are doing somethng right.

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
