Dic Panel Swap

If it wasn't for this forum, I never would have guess about this.

I called my dealer parts and they could order it, I told them GM.parts direct has it for $72.00 plus shipping. They sold it to me for $85.00 plus tax.

When I got there, I asked the Salesman who sold me the truck last month why he didn't tell me about my DIC.

His jaw dropped!

So I told him about how the wires are already in place and all you had to do was swap out the panel. Both he and the Parts guy were unaware of this. But he liked the Idea and will pass it on to new customers if they are interested.

I enjoyed dealing with this group, pretty down to earth people.

I just installed it about 30 minutes ago. Took about 20 minutes and it works just fine.

Thanks again to this forum. I learn new things every day about these trucks.

Yeah...it's a great mod. Not too often do you find a mod that's as easy as this. It probably shouldn't be a mod, though...GM should just include it as standard.

I will have to search this topic, I wonder if a DIC will fit in my truck in less then 20 mins.

20 mins is the extreme side. Took me about 5 minutes

Yep...about five minutes here as well. Probably the best $72 I have spent in a long time.

I love my new DIC......play with it all the time.....hope I don't go blind!

I have only had this truck since May 6th. So I had to follow the instructions that came with the DIC.

You remove the fuse box cover(?), then remove the Emergency Brake Release handle bolt and the handle from the knee panel, then remove the two screws from the knee panel and remove it also. Then pop off the non-DIC panel and remove the light and dimmer switch. Move the wires to the DIC panel and reinstall it all.

That's according to the GM instruction sheet.

If I recall correctly, I just popped off the old panel without removing anything else. This is the reason it took me 5 minutes. A little manipulation had to be used to work in the new panel, but wasn't too difficult for me. I was probably lucky and the spacing between panels was wide enough that I did not have to actually remove them.

+1. I popped off the old, plugged in the new and then popped it back in. Honestly took all of about 3 minutes.

I did it just like this and had no problems. I just pulled gently from the corner and the panel came right off. After that, everything else was cake. :sigh:
