Ac Question

My 03 1500HD is blowing warm air for the first 3-5 minutes after start up when the AC is engaged. It does not do this all the time and it is not necesarrily roasting hot out when this occurs. Any hints here on what is going on? TIA!!!

I only have 25,000 miles btw.

First I would check your high and low refrigerant pressures with gauges to be sure they are factory spec.

For what it's worth my 02 1500HD does the same thing occasionally. It seems like it happens when the inside of the truck is fairly warm. Other than that there is no real frequency as to when it happens.

I'll be interested to see some replies to this for some ideas as to what wrong.

My 04 does this too and it drives me crazy.......bought it with 36,000 and now 43,000.

I think its related to the little unit under the center of the dash in the bottom of the ductwork/hvac assembly. From what I have read. Or the blend doors sticking? Its random but when it does it it blows warm air....

I noticed something on my 2000 that *might* be related to your problem.

On mine, if I turn the temp to full hot, turn the fan on full and then turn the temp to full cold, the fan will hold the blend door in the hot position. The actuator can't overcome the fan air pressure. If I turn the fan down, the door will close off the heater core.

I discovered this when I was turning on my AC. I jumped in the truck, fan on full and AC on but had left it in full heat. I turned the heat to full cold but still got hot air. It took me a bit to figure out what was happening.

Where is the cabin air filter and/or how do I access it? Thanks in advance!!

My 01 does the same thing. Usually after driving for a while with the A/C on, I'll stop somewhere and when I come out and restart my truck the A/C blows hot for a while regardless of where the fan speed is set. After a bit of control fiddling, I can get it to blow cold. I would love to figure this out.

Check your radiator fan clutch. I had the same problem on 2005 GMC 2500HD and that fixed the problem. The fan clutch was bad and wasnt pulling enough air across for the AC to work properly...

we had a yukon that did something similar (2002 i think it was)

basically you'd have the air on and it would only blow hot air, if you turned it off for a bit or removed the battery cable and reattached it would act normal for awhile

ended up being the controller for the blending door

The fan clutch seems in good working order; I tried to spin it around and it has a good bit of resistance. It spun maybe 1/3 of a turn.
